Eating Slugs
We have a real problem, especially when it has been raining and Densil goes into the garden at night - there are loads of slugs in our garden and he is going round eating them! I have told vet when I have bought his worm tablets, but worried about lungworm. Has anybody got any pet friendly suggestions for getting rid of them as don't want to put chemical down.

Re: Eating Slugs
This stuff looks quite good although I have not personally used it, it is pet and child safe and used by organic farmers:

Thanks Kathy, will give that a go - I was just a bit worried about him eating the slugs after they have eaten the slug killer, but if is it pet safe should be ok.

Re: Eating Slugs
Bo has eaten a couple of slugs (I think, not sure) so I was looking for something that prevents and treats lungworm (French heartworm). Everything is prescription only aside from Panacur which he won't touch. Basically it's a money-making scam like Advantix and Canaural, forcing you to pay a fortune for a pointless prescription for a treatment that should be freely available. It makes me furious that I have to choose between lining the vet's pocket and undertaking basic health protection for my dog.

Always use advocate on Vin which is also for lungworm, I dont know what you could get rid of them with, I find a jar down in the ground with fruit cider they pop in and drown. Suppose you could dot a few jars around

Re: Eating Slugs
I have a really good way of deterring slugs. They hate garlic. So I boil up lots of garlic cloves and dilute in lots of water and spray on all affected plants - especially vegetabels or hostas or dahlias. I also put garlic cloves down near the vulnerable plants. It really works and is non toxic. Saved lots of my plants. It wouldn't eliminate your slugs but should cut down their numbers perhaps - also depends on how big your garden is.
Alternatively, keep him on lead in the garden at night when he does his business.
