For those of you that have decided not to rescue - curious to know why not?

Was having this conversation with my mum who adores Bug - I've said there are 50 more of her at the local dogs home lol but when talking about getting her own dog has said that she would never rescue.

Just intrigued! No judgements lol Smile

I guess a lot of people either want a pedigree - or puppy and a lot of people don't realise there are loads of pups in rescues just generally not advertised, Also I guess a lot of people like to know the history.

Personally would only ever rescue though Xx

I wanted neither a pedigree or a puppy at the time, took me two weeks to decide to have a dog again tbh. its a long story as to how i got my two but im so glad i did. and it came about because i personaly rescued 2 pups fom my bitch of an exes bf and that took some doing banging on doors etc. i was then introduced to a weight pull/ dog trainer and got marley and laska a year later...marley is three tomorow and i cant beleive how fast that has gone

We didn't want to rescue because we had no previous dog owning experience and thought if we got a grown dog with problems, we wouldn't know how to properly handle it, so instead getting a puppy meant we would learn as the pup grew and give us that missing basic dog owning knowledge and experience...if that makes any sense?

I think we were a little naive about it all and if we had known just how full the kennels and rescues were, and researched it more we would have happily rescued!
Now we know, we have both said we would only ever rescue in the future Smile

I didn't mean to rescue... It just happened i dont know

To be honest though, I was being lazy and wanted a house trained dog as having a puppy years before, I realised how much work they are. Walking round the rescue centre made me realise how many Staffs of all ages there are in rescue.

I can understand those that want to choose a pup but wouldn't go that route personally.

The reason we couldn't rescue was Eli, not many places were willing to rehome a dog let alone a staffie with him because he's only 4. We tried loads of independent places and got No-where. So we got loki. But as soon as he is old enough and I feel ready to have another dog, I will rescue or foster.

I got Snoop of someone my brother in law knew he`d not been treated great but was a very loving dog. Snoop was a year old when we got him and was not house trained he soon settled in and was house trained pretty quick. My two were young at the time and i did wonder if a staff would be too much too handle but snoop was fab with everyone. When Snoop pass away i did visit the local dog home a few times but the lack of history on the dogs put me of. They could not tell me if any of the dogs were alright with cats. I did not want to get a dog then find out it hated cats and have to return it. I did ask if they had any pups but they said no and did not know if the other home had any either. I decided it be better to get a pup with us having the cat. If we had not of had the cat i would of taken on a rescue dog no problem.

My 9 week old is a rescue. In my opinion there are to many people breeding staffys now and it is all just tor money. No passion into the dogs just money. Not saying everyone is like that as there are some breeders who will do anything for there dogs and vet check were they are going to

It's interesting to know how people chose their fur friends. There's not a right or wrong and having been fortunate to have a pup and a rescue, and very lucky in the main with Flo, I would rescue again.

We got Darcy as a pup purely because Molly has always been terrified of dogs. With no reason for it, I wanted the to grow together and since then her confidence has dogs is amazing, if we get another dog again we'll rescue xxx

We decided to get (buy) a pup because we have a cat who we think the world of. I was worried that even rescue dogs that were supposedly good with cats might still chase him as he's a complete wuss. I think if i was to get another dog I'd rescue a staffy in a heartbeat though, they're big softies really.

I was meant to rescue mia as i had planned to get a staffy pup. Glad i rescued as i always say read up on the staffy before you rescue even ask for a trial before you take the dog on full time any decent rescue centre will accomodate this. You also have to think of your home situation and long term plans and how to cope with each situation with a rescue dog.

So most have gone (or will go) for rescues as I have twice, but wouldn't it be a better world for our lovelies if all breeders were licensed and no pups were sold in pet shops - please look up the RSPCA petition to the government and sign up !
