stupid woman...

Loki is just starting to feel better, I went to work today and left Liam to walk loki. He was playing with two labradors off the lead in the park, when a puppy comes over, loki was playing and a woman came running over screaming and picked her puppy up. Liam was stood with the woman who owned the labradors and both of them turned around to see what she was flapping about...and it was because she thought loki was going to hurt the puppy because he is one of 'those' dogs....Liam turned around to her and said (very proud I might add)

'its never the dog but the person training. and if you go screaming and running into a situation where dogs are playing you will end up causing your dog to be attacked'

she carried her puppy off and apologised for over reacting....when he told me when I got home, was so glad I wasn't there....

Silly silly women, sorry to hear this happened. Sounds like Laim handled the situation marvelously. Unfortunately the social stigma surrounding our beloved breed will always be out there, all we can do is handle each encounter with a cool level head.

I had a dipshidiot of a woman in my taxi who had the audacity to try and tell me I had to be careful with Staffies because of their prey drive. I put her straight and told her it's the PLAY drive you have to be worried about.

It's ridiculous!!! Greyhounds have prey drive...don't see people banging on about them...I was saying to a taxi man this morning that people just look at a staffie playing and instantly think it's aggression....idiots..

On a walk today just as I was about to open the car door to let my dogs in a woman waking a Scotty dog dropped her lead and the dog ran over to my dogs, Skye was pulling to try get to the dog to play but brody did growl :/ but the women's child who was about 10 yrs old shouted mum that's the wild dogs, lol I had to laugh tho as he was just a kid but his mum corrected him and apologised to me lol

Totaly agree, all dogs have prey drive. how they use it depends on which parts of the model are most dominent to the breed. it consists of,
Orient
Eye
Stalk
Chase
Grab
Kill
Dissect

and just because a dog shows high on orient, eye, stalk and chase it doesnt mean it will carry out the last three. border collies have insane prey drive but grab, kill and dissect are frowned upon for working with stock so it has been bred out of them.

Id say 90% of all dogs love the chase, its play and its fun so they love doing it.

Also prey in the eyes of dogs, isnt other dogs or people or babies etc etc they aint stupid and know exactly what prey is.

one of the biggest problems is that anyone can get a dog withought the simplest idea of what makes a dog tick. thats why you have so many dogs with problems, ignorant owners effectivley training them thier own fears as humans and not dogs. i fear that that puppy will be taught that all other dogs are bad and to be avoided if she carries on like that

Yeah my sisters dog is a collie cross lab, and he's crazy goes mad. She's just gonna scare the life out of the dog and it's gonna end up growing up and acting out of fear.poor thing.

There's an ancient bloke lives near me, looks like an extra from The Hobbit, and he shuffles around with an equally vacant spaniel. When he sees me coming with Bo, even though Bo's on a lead, he turns and hobbles off in the other direction. Today he reversed direction and then, obviously thinking that I might overtake him and he might get savaged by my devil dog, left the road altogether, blundering off into the woods like a senile version of Bear Grylls. God knows what was going through his mind, he'll probably be found dead in there next spring.

Maybe his spaniel is the viscous one and so he avoiding all other dogs

I considered that but looking at his spaniel I doubt it. If it wasn't standing up you'd never know it was alive (much like its owner).

I find this stuff so amusing to read. The first time we took Nala out in public as a pup (about 12 weeks) we took her to a cafe and she got (almost) attacked by a fluffy chihuahua who kept trying to nip her and wouldn't stop barking. My poor girl just cowarded under the table. And OUR dogs are the vicious ones. Pft.

Yup!!! We had a chihuahua to stay and it kept going for loki all the time!!
