think my boy has a grass allergy
Loki has had a rash on and off ever since he got poorly back in June, the vets don't know what it is, but today he had a little rash, on his neck and the groin area, and then when I took him for a run in the park he went running in the long grass, we came back and his little tummy was completely covered in a bright red rash, he was scratching so much he made himself bleed, I have a spare I use on him when it gets too bad, but he gets these little spots where he's scratched too much

Make sure you check between his paws too, my American bulldog foster girl used to have bright pink skin between toes when her allergies were flaring poor thing! Hers was food related too though.

Bless him! Must feel horrible malaseb shampoo is good for soothing skin, but think it's prescription only. A friend swears by diluted green tea wiped over sore bits with a cotton pad! But I haven't tried it myself.

Re: think my boy has a grass allergy
Freya peppa has suspected grass allergy but nothing will stop her from skidding on it. Go to boots and get the 4mg piriton and give it twice a day no need for prescription . Meanwhile I would wash him with water or gentle dog/baby shampoo and then aloe Vera or sudocream. peppa never scratched herself so I decided she dont need to live on piriton ill just use it when needed and make sure I wash her after being exposed to long grass it works for me.

Re: think my boy has a grass allergy
Wiping him down with a wet cloth when you get in from walks will help Followed by some coconut oil or sudocrem.
I've head about the green tea, Camomile or Ruiobus tes(don't know the spelling) baths is supposed to help too! Hope he feels better!
If you are struggling to stop him itching it, try putting a tight fitting t shirt on him just to protect the cuts

Re: think my boy has a grass allergy
Yep, our Loki who is 6 months old has had such bad skin as well. He was all red and raw from scratching and biting that his hair was coming out in places. He looked like an old dog underneath as the skin was all red and wrinkly and all red between his toes. We tried everything from primrose oil, salmon oil, off all grains.
Took him to a dermatologist who said that he seems too young for it to be a pollen or house dust allergy, all started from about 3 months. Apparently pollen and house dust affects them from 6 months.
We now on a food trial for 4 weeks and go back then. His skin is so smooth and soft now, not scratching and biting as much. He's not happy as he's not allowed any treats or anything else but this food. Will see what happens in 2 weeks when I go back. He has special shampoo we use twice a week as well. Im hoping the insurance is going to cover this. They have covered all his vet appointments relation to his skin so hopefully they will cover this. They don't want to do allergy testing on him yet as he's too young and could pick up things he's allergic to that can change.

Re: think my boy has a grass allergy
My loki is 6 months as well, he's raw fed, and since that his skin hasn't been too bad, I put calamine lotion on it, but he's been poorly recently so the vet wouldn't treat him for it all. I'm gonna start using a special shampoo on him as well.

Re: think my boy has a grass allergy
I have same probs with Vin I use Malaseb shampoo and Piriton, I give Vin one a day but half at a time. Then cut it down to half a day. If you want to see if its a grass allergy when its all healed just get some fresh grass and rub it between your fingers then just wipe it on a tiny part of tum, if it flares up then you will know xx

Re: think my boy has a grass allergy
tcwho: Bane's skin started flaring up and getting bad at about 14 weeks old. The vet's told us for months it can't be an allergy because he was younger than 6 months....guess what it turned out to be! Dust mite allergy.
I hope all the testing goes well! And glad to hear Loki is a little better Freya Takes a few months to get settled into a routine that keeps their skin under control!
