Too Skinny!!!
I was told that Tilly was too skinny.
Then got a lecture about giving high protein food for about 10 minutes.
It's made me paranoid. On a side note Tilly is in heat (Started when I was on Holiday)

my sis's staff is the same build and has always been the same. i think some people just expect the short stocky build that they associate with staffs

She is stunning, really, not your 'typicaly built' staff but she is perfect! I for one think so, (but I'm also being very biased!)

Re: Too Skinny!!!
My staff I am always being told is skinny, he was skin and bones when i got him but it is only his hindquarters that are slim but he is pure muscle and the vet says hes healthy as can be. Tilly I would consider fat compaired to a golden reitreiver i saw today, couldnt see a bit of meat on her, could see every rib, was skinnier looking then a greyhound, poor thing!

Re: Too Skinny!!!
She's gorgeous for starters and I think she looks fine weight wise, she's the image of my friends stafford in colour and who also is the same build, she's always being told she's skinny too but its just her build
Also just noticed her birthdays the day after my Zero's

She looks on the slim side to me but that is only cos my boy is on the chubby side
I am trying to bring his weight down, but he still has so much puppy fat.

Re: Too Skinny!!!
I think thats the way she is made and thats that if you know what I mean!!!
She looks healthy and if you take a good look at her and realised she is in balance all over then you will appreciate that if she had more bulk on her body her head would look lost and if she had a stronger head she would look too thin and un-balanced I think she looks fine the way she is and still young I for one would rather see a fit dog than one overweight

Re: Too Skinny!!!
Gem, I totally agree! She looks very balanced and fit. Some dogs are just naturally lean.
Anyway, a high protien diet won't put weight on her. If you really feel she needs a little more weight (I don't think so, but that's just my personal opinion) then give her a few meals of green tripe - guaranteed to put weight on!

Re: Too Skinny!!!
Shes wonderfully fit, dont listen to whoever said that. She looks fantastic and I wouldn't personally like to see any more weight on her. I 'spect the person who said that's dogs are those podgy squat things which cant breath or walk properly! Some people mistake fat for substance, it just covers faults and makes for a more unhealthy dog. I have had this arguement with many in the dog and horse showing worlds!

As long as you love her, that's all that matters. Don't worry what others think or say.

You can get frozen green tripe (minced) from Pets at Home, and online from a few distributors - this is one that I've just ordered from.....

The order arrived today. Well packed although it was starting to defrost a bit. The food looks good, but I'll let you know later if Dempsey likes it.

Re: Too Skinny!!!
Gave Dempsey some cow's udder (yuk, and I thought that tripe smelt nasty!) and a deer's leg. After sniffing suspiciously at the udder he wolfed it down & he's eaten half the leg (the half with the most meat on!), so I think he's given it the seal of approval!
I think they're a little expensive & I wouldn't use them all the time. But it's useful to get different types of bones and different offal (can't get cow's udder anywhere around here!).

Re: Too Skinny!!!
I was also worried about Polly's weight and asked the vet about it when she was having her jabs, our vet said that as a rule of thumb you should just be able to feel her ribs when you stroke her but not see them.

This is one of the more popular sites to buy frozen raw from, but check to see if they deliver to your area - they don't deliver to mine yet, although apparently they're planning to..............
