Too Skinny Empty Too Skinny

Post by Christine.Mitch12 Tue Aug 21 2012, 17:07

I have a 3 year old staffy named pandora and she has been losing weight and she is very skinny. you can see her ribs. Sad I have tried many different types of food for her and she hasn't seemed to put on any weight.. She is allergic to chicken so I have to be careful of what types of food i give her. and lately she hasn't been touching her food at all. She is not her active self and all she does is sleep all day except for when i bring her outside, but still then she doesn't play as much as she used to and she will just sunbathe... what should i do to get my little girl back to her normal self?

Hiya and welcome from me and Moo. Moo is very lean, not skinny so to speak but has a lean build. If your worried and she is really off colour I would pop to the vets Smile

She just recently had a visit to the vets and they told me that she is perfectly healthy.. This is also the first summer I have had her. Could the heat possibly be effecting her mood?

You could try a change in diet, mine also has an intolerance to chicken and she is on a fish diet, which helped (in other ways), if it is something that has only just come on and the vets are totally happy with then I'm not too sure what else to suggest. You could try treat oriantated exersize to get her playing and eating.

I also have Pandora on a fish diet, when i first got the food for her she seemed to love it now when i feed her, her food dish will go untouched.

You could try adding in some sardines in oil or raw egg, I do sometimes and it doesn't touch the sides Smile

Have you tried walking her when the temperature isn't as hot? Also have you tried feeding treats or a food she really likes to put weight on?

Could you try some minced meat and some veg. Poor thing, I'd nip her back to the vet.

I feed RAW food. A great food to put on bulk is tripe. Have you tried that?

I'm aving similar problem rocko won't put weight on he is a very active dog but i've tried different foods sometimes he'll not eat his food for a day or two, was thinking of giving him a mix of a raw diet but don't have a clue where to start as he can be quite fussy what he eats.
