Post by freyj4z Mon Aug 04 2014, 18:03

My friend has a staffie x rott x lab her ex used to abuse the dog and Saturday night he came around as unfortunately she's pregnant with his baby, he was drunk got all up in marley face marley is completely frightened of him and he bit the ex on the nose, guy has had to have stitches, and my friend is beside herself that they are going to take marley, her ex is evil!!!! But she doesn't know if there is any rehab centres around here that might help. Or give her info, that poor dog has been through enough seeing as it was a bait dog, it doesn't deserve to be punished because of some evil man

The ex has told her she has one day to get rid of the dog or he's calling the police to have marley seized

I would hope its just controlling threats from the ex, but otherwise I'm sure if she explained how the ex goaded and previously mistreated the dog she will be fine I take it Marley is ok with your friend and isn't otherwise human aggressive?

It of course won't hurt to tick a box and ask the vet for advice regarding behaviour and they may be able to vouch for the temperament of Marley

Yeah, no marley is brilliant, I've had him and taken him out before and he's fine, he's a lovely dog. He plays with my friends brothers as well. Thank you I will get her to do that.

The Dogs Trust can provide help to people who stay in bad situations because they are worried about their dog, they can offer far more advice to families in such horrid situations through their freedom project.

Do you have any witness statements from others who have seen you out with Marley ? Do you have any video of him playing with other dogs or playing with some children ? The more evidence you have of him being under control the better.

Has Marley ever been to any training classes ? Maybe an idea to just get booked into a training class with a qualified behaviourist,  they could then also give an unbiased record of Marleys behaviour.

Could you friend report the Ex to the police for harrassing her ?

If the ex is violent to her she could have her dog temporary fostered by dogs trust I don't know about if he's violent to the dog but I would check with them.

Dogs trust couldn't help because the dog had bitten someone, but they did send over a voucher to get him neutered, just incase the police do get called and they find him to be 'type'

I think if he's aggressive now your friend needs to protect her unborn child from this man, as you said he's evil, he sounds like someone I wouldn't let within a million miles of my kids xx

That's what I've been saying to her, I wouldn't let him anywhere near my child let alone my dog, I think she's just frightened.

Can completely understand that she would want the father of her child in her life but just hope she can find the strength to listen to the alarm bells that are ringing over his behaviour

It won't change chances are he will be more jealous when the baby is born and her attention is on the little one

There's no evidence that the dog bit the woman's ex so it never happened, right? He probably got that injury in a bar fight. In fact, that's what happened. So there's no grounds to seize the dog and therefore she needn't worry.

When the ambulance was phoned, they said he was bit by a dog, the dog didn't even grab hold of him, just a warning bite, but cause he's so big it was deeper
He only got the bridge of his nose. I just spent time with marley, he's such a nervous dog, and he backed away every time a man walked near him. He sat for me and gave me half a paw.

You friend does not need to have any contact with these man at all. If she decides to let him see the child it can be done at a secure center and she does not need to see him at all. there is no reason for him to even be inside her home and any threats made should be recorded and reported. Your friend needs to protect the dog and her unborn child from him.

Personally i`d tell a little white lie to protect the dog and get my own back  angry
