Skin problems Empty Skin problems

Post by tcwho Sun Aug 03 2014, 18:39

Hi. I don't know if anyone can help or is it just the warm weather. Our boy Loki is now just 6 months old, for the past 2 months or so his skin has got worse. He scratches a lot, not when we put and about thought. His inside legs and tummy have red patches, he chews and licks and has patches where the hair is thinning. He had a scrape done at the vet about a month ago, no mites. He has special sensitive shampoo to wash him twice a week. I wash his bedding once a week. He is now on Wafcol salmon and potatoe. He has antihistamine, primrose oil and salmon oil. I put sudacrem on which doesn't really do anything. I go back to vet in 3 weeks for them to do more tests. I haven't tried aloe Vera which I think I'll get tomorrow and try. The inside of his legs where it's red is very dry. Any help would be appreciated.

Peppas got skin allergy now I use piriton ( anti histamine 4 mg) twice a day washed her ant put aloe Vera and sudocream and its much better.
If nothing else helps why don't you switch to raw feeding? Or at least change his food but I heard raw feeding is really good to skin conditions I'm gonna do it myself soon . Another thing worth trying is apple cider vinegar. Good luck

Did you notice anything change when it all started? Weather, Food, Anything at home? Does he get more itchy after walks or certain things?

We were given a steroid spray and a little bottle of anticeptic type cleaner for Bane's skin when his got bad and it worked wonders. Coconut oil is also great. I hope you get it sorted soon! Keep us updated Smile

Been to dermatologist 2 weeks ago now on veritinary diet, and his skin has improved so much. We have a steroid spray and special shampoo to wash him twice a week. He does scratch a little now and then but his skin looks so much better. Go back in 2 weeks so will see what he says. So difficult to spray him as he goes mad and runs away, might ask about antiseptic cleaner next time.

We have a member at our obedience class who's staff was on daily medication + twice weekly medicated baths. We convinced him to try a raw diet and his skin cleared up in a couple of weeks. We all feed Natural Instinct ( available on-line ) but there are several other BARF complete foods. It's worth a try believe me.

Loki 's skin is much better on raw, he's still got little sore areas, but loki was running through the long grass today in the woods and his skin is sore now. Especially the paws

My puppy was the same until I changed her food and added coconut oil and apple vinegar to her food everyday, also instead off using sudercream try using msm cream. Also I've found a good shampoo called dermopt that's a bit cheaper than vets shampoo

Good luck with your appointment Smile The anticeptic cleaner is good as you just dilute it and wipe it onto the sore areas without having to fully bath them!

I know my puppy is a very special one (in a not great way) with her dehydration issues so this probably wont be relevant to you however another thing to do is make sure Loki is hydrated enough. Nala's skill did a complete 180 within a week of her getting the required amount of water.
