Staffy's really are family dogs!!
My nearly two year old girl has always been boisterous, playful and extremely over excited. My husband and I recently had a baby. We were both nervous as to how she was going to react. As she had been our fur baby for nearly two years and a very spoilt girl at that!
We had prepared her by playing baby crying sounds leading up and done a good amount of research on how to include her when the time came. Finally the day arrived. She went up to my husbands parents home for a week as we needed some time to settle into life as first time parents. She loves going up there as she gets to run on the beach. We had given them a blanket with the baby's smell on it so she could familiarize the smell. The day she came home my husband took her for a big run before coming to the house to burn off any excess energy. At the gate I had left another blanket. We let her smell it. She was so calm!!! She ran around the yard smelling. We had her on lead at first. We showed her our bundle of joy. she was so gentle. sniffing. calm.
That was seven weeks ago and still the same behaviour. My over excited girl has gone and a calm lady has arrived. She adores him. She sleeps next to his cot even on the cold floor if we have not been quick enough to move her bed from the lounge when its bed time. She will wake with me and sit at my feet every feed throughout the night. When he cries she cries and nudges the cot gently rocking him which will often stop him crying. Once he stops she goes to bed.
We now call her Mummy staff! Of course we supervise him and her very strictly! Of course at the dog park she still has plenty of energy but she is far more calm than ever before. She plays and always comes and checks on her baby every few minutes. She has blown us away with her behaviour. I didnt think I could love her more but I just did xxx

Congrats on your new arrival.. A new Forum member
Staffs are historically known as the Nanny dog and your Mummy Staff just goes to show how true that name is
My Flo is so protective of my youngest son.. And he's 14
