so beau wont go in the new paddling pool
So the hot weather is here so I thought I would buy a pool so beau could cool down but can we get her in the pool no way any body got any ideas she would rather drink the water than jump in and cool off!

We usually chuck in some toys, or even treats to get them in

I can vouch for the toy idea too! Preferably floaty ones!

Re: so beau wont go in the new paddling pool
toy-in-pool should work ..
only recently enticed 'Lady' to give swimming a go
whereas previously she'd panic if her paws got wet
for 3 days i threw a stick into a lake ..
( Swinsty resevoir .. http://www.walkingenglishman.com/leedsharrogate30.htm )
this be after she'd done a bit of wading in a shallow river ..
on her own accord .. driven by thirst on these hot days methinks ..
pretty sure today's effort saw her with all 4 paws off the lake bed
( i only throw the stick about 2 or 3 feet into the deeper part
( where she must swim or sink ..
( plus she's still attached by harness to a long lead

Re: so beau wont go in the new paddling pool
how deep is the water in the paddlin' pool ?
IF i had one i'd at first try just enough to cover paws 'n no more
should that work .. next i'd go up to knee hight ..
and ending up with enough depth so doggie could lay down in it
with head still well above water ..
was just a thought as Lady's 'intro' was about a paws depth
and the rock-shelf she was on varied to about to where her tummy got wet
here's a yootoob of it ..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7NsCDHXRO0
( select 720p setting for less pixelation )
shallow bit .. rock-shelf-by-river .. was on day 1
i.e. the clip where she slips in up to bums depth :-)
next couple of days we went to the reservoir beach 'n played fetch with a stick ..
if she weren't in want of a drink .. she'd have never ventured near the wading pool in the first place ..

Pixee wont go into a padding pool, but show her a stream, river so long as she can see and feel the floor, she is off having fun! I tried the toys last year, ever getting in the pool myself to no valid! Good luck with it. Oh perhaps a hose? Pixee goes crazy and loves the hose.

Suki won't go into the water either and I've tried everything I can think of. Best of luck to you

Re: so beau wont go in the new paddling pool
We manage to get Alfie to step in to get his ball .... and then he steps straight back out again! I did notice that he found the bottom of it a bit slippery so have just bought a cheap bath mat to put in the bottom to see if he is happier to stay in it. Not had chance to try it out yet.
