Is it safe to leave my rescue staffy alone with my other dogs?
I rescued a 3yo female desexed staffordshire bull terrier from the pound 1 month ago. I've never owned a staffy before and since she was so friendly with the other dogs at the pound I thought it would be fine to leave her in the backyard with my other two dogs (a 6yo desexed male basset hound and a 10yo desexed male shih tzu X). But when I was on a dog forum (a pit bull one) and asked this question over 95% of people said 'No way'.
She does show some dominating behaviour towards them (she mounts them quite a lot) and has had a few fights (once when my basset fell on top of her while waiting for lunch and twice when my shih tzu wanted to play with a stick of hers). The fights sounded bad but she didn't leave a mark on either of my dogs. This behaviour has only happened when I've been around. I have let her outside with them and watched from the window and they haven't fought at all: just laid in the sun together.
I had hoped she would be a companion to my basset hound after my other dog died (a desexed female Samoyed/Kelpie cross), but if I can't leave them alone unsupervised that's really going to be hard.
I'd love any help from experienced Staffy owners.

Re: Is it safe to leave my rescue staffy alone with my other dogs?
Dogs tend to regulate themselves fairly well, but maybe not leave them together alone after only having her only a month.
Of course this depends what you mean by leave along 5 minutes is fine 5 hours is a whole different story.
My pair are bull bread mutts and not pure but dogs is dogs, and whenever I have to leave them alone in the house I cage the female just to ensure that if something was to happen my more timid male would just walk away.
Better to be careful than pay for your vets next holiday.

Only you will be able to answer this question. I would let them socialise alone over longer and longer periods of time whilst quietly watching to see how they interact. As previously suggested, they do sort themselves out with regard to hierarchy pretty quickly.
If after a reasonable period of time you see no signs of aggression then use your own judgement as you will by then know how things run with all the dogs.

I agree with Ian. Only you will know when they're ready but it also depends on how long you;re wanting to leave them all together. Are you able to separate them for now when you go out until they get a little more used to one another?

Thanks so much for the replies everyone. For now I can't leave Luna outside alone because she is climbing over the fence (does anyone have any solutions for this? e.g. something I could put along the top to stop her grabbing hold and pulling herself over?), so she is inside with me while my other dogs are outside. I take her out the back to see the other dogs twice a day, feed them together in the kitchen and I've been trying to walk them together but she's become leash reactive after being attacked by a west-highland terrier, so I have to walk her alone at the moment.
For the next 6 months I'm going to be at home most of the time, but next year I will have to be away throughout the day 2-3 times a week for uni. So it would be great if, over this time, I could build up the time they spend together
