Male locks on to female who is not in heat
Hi
My 2 1/2 year old neutered male is mounting and locking in to my 3 year old un-spayed female who is no longer in season. She doesn't seem to be bothered by this but I have read that it shouldn't be possible so I am concerned that he might be injuring her in some way.
Any advice please?
kind regards
Tony

Sorry, I have no experience with this but am sure someone will be along shortly with advise. Do you keep them separated at all? What do you do when you see him locking on?

And you've allowed this more than once?
How do you know she is not in season? they don't have to show to be in season.

Sorry, when I wrote "is" I meant to have said "has", it's the first time it's happened. She's been out of season for about 3 weeks. I have seen the male try to mount her when they have been playing but he gets told to get off by me or he gets off himself before I tell him.

She's still releasing pheromones and could still possible catch too, so if the litter isn't planned, I'd take her to the vets to get a termination and check for tearing if she wasn't swollen and widened for a male.

OP's male is neutered, Amelie.
I'd probably have a chat with your vet Tony! I know nothing about breeding, have always had fixed rescues here.
