Chicken and rice
Our vet has suggested putting Alfie on a boiled chicken and rice diet for a few days to try and fix his upset tummy. He's 10 months now and just wondering if any of you have any recommendations as to how much to give him? On his normal food he gets half a tin of wet food and a handful of dry food twice a day. Any advise greatly appreciated! Thanks xx

Re: Chicken and rice
Boiled brown rice is best with the chicken. It really builds them up though so you'd need to exercise him at least twice a day as he may plonk on weight. I'd probably give him 2 meals a day, one on the morning and one at tea time. Start off with small portions (if you boil up the rice, you can always pop it in the fridge if there's too much, but make sure it's thoroughly cooled before going in there). Hope this helps and hope Alfies stomach settles soon. Also have a look for kibbles with the least additives it it when he goes back on his normal diet.

I think little and often is the general guide.

Re: Chicken and rice
Thanks all he seemed to love the chicken but wasn't overly impressed with the rice lol! He's just had a bit of a funny tummy for a week or so now so fingers crossed this will solve it xx

Re: Chicken and rice
mashed sweet potatoes is a good alternative to rice. it will firm up the stools and is gentle on the stomach. if you want to try rice again boil it with some mint which is good for an upset tummy but also gives it an intresting smell dogs like as plain rice will just seem boring

Re: Chicken and rice
You could boil the chicken first and then boil the rice in the chicken water to add some flavour. Or mix in a little bit of plain scrambled egg.
We were told little and often so start with maybe half a cup of chicken and rice and if he is ok, give another half a cup a few hours later. When Bane was on it for a few days, I think he had a little less than his normal weight in food.
