Re: dealing with a hot dog at night ?
Marquez sleeps in an enclosed crate and will only sleep through the night if both the air conditioner AND fan are on. We have the fan on low pointed into his kennel and he loves this. Before we tried this he would bark and want to get out 2-3 times throughout the night. Fortunately we figured the heat was the problem pretty quickly so didn't have to go through too many sleepless nights.
He was sleeping in a larger wire open crate before we moved him into the smaller enclosed crate (wanted to get him used to the smaller one as he will be using it for travelling overseas) without needing either air-conditioner or fan with no issues as it was all open which is how we sorted of worked out it was the lack of air and being too hot inside his smaller crate.
Maybe get a small fan and turn it on for her.
This is now his own personal fan.

I've looked into something similar but my only concern is if its toxic if the dogs decide to eat and destroy it

You can also get cooling collars - although never used them myself. I take it the cage is closed at night? Only say this cause if Moo is too hot she gets rid of anything she finds too hot Xx
