Trying a harness.
We only ever used half check collars with Floyd, and overall we were more than happy with them. We are using one with Theia but one problem we're having is when she gets to meet dogs or people she drags as much as she can. And when we stop she's got the half check to it's limit so it just becomes an ordinary collar.
I've never been a fan of harnesses, simply because I've never had to use one, but using both the collar and the harness with a double ended lead we can walk her as we intend but when she drags with a flick of the wrist we can take the strain on the harness.
It's a soft over the head type and things seem to be going well. It's not always needed, as sometimes we don't get close enough for her to pull, but as a back up when needed it's great.

Harnesses are great for taking the strain off their necks. I hope it works well for you

It's going well so far. We start pup training this week, but to be honest every waking moment is training!

Re: Trying a harness.
I only use the harness which goes over the neck and around the muzzle. Vin doesnt pull anyway but gets a tad excited with other dogs and people so it does help then. Have tried the proper harness but much prefer to be in control of the teeth area!

If I'm walking Rocky on my own I tend to go for just his collar with lead attached, when hubby is there we use the EzyDog harness and collar. I also like to have control of the sharp end.

When saff has had her full vaccination and can finally take her for a walk I will be using a harness as she does not seem to like the collar she has anyway but tested a harness on her and she seemed happier and also easier to control !

Re: Trying a harness.
For such a young pup she is fantastic on the collar, we were getting her used to the collar and lead from day one. We've walked past people with the biggest s*** eating grin on our faces because she is walking better than their adult dog but that is rare . Once she learns that she can't approach everything with a face we'll hopefully leave the harness behind. Peter told me about a woman who told him she was scared of staffies because they've got to be held back with a harness and that's always stuck in my mind (he put her right).

Inez what one do you use if you don't mind me asking? Alfie doesn't pull but has the same issue with getting over excited with people/dogs! Xx
