why are they so rough!
Hi everyone :-D
Been making great progress but like iv said before it takes nothing to get her so hyper. Mouthing seems to be mostly with me but she did nip mums arm with her jumping at lead.
Anyways last night when the sun was off the garden we sat out and she was attached to her tie out stake and i sat on the grass too and she was wanting cuddles so she was on my knee and off it and on again carrying on. She then wandered about then ran at my back and jumped on me and was growling and mouthing. Ignorin just makes her do it more eeek

When they misbehave it's end of "fun time." Put her somewhere quiet to "think about" her behaviour.

How old is she? The mouthing etc is an attempt to iniate play. How much exercise and mental stimulation is she getting and what type of food is she fed?

Re: why are they so rough!
15 months.
She was fed on raw for a spell but wont eat it anymore so shes on naturediet trays and natures menu tins and some grain free mixer to add crunch.
Shes walked 2 or 3 times a day and i cant let her off as she jumps people so i have a long line to let her run.
Shes always so crazy! Iv tried time out but didnt work great for her

Re: why are they so rough!
Sounds like she is getting enough exercise provided that the walks total 90 minutes or so and the food doesn't seem like an issue. The likely cause is that she is going through the teenage phase and pressing her boundaries. I would go back to basic obediance training like she was a young pup. This will reinforce the rules and also help to tire her out through mental stimulation.

Re: why are they so rough!
Thanks jstaff
Yeah i was thinking how shes actin like shes 6 months again. Shes been getting naughty again. She has had an excuse this week as her walks have been cut down as she got speyed. Defo sounds like a teen rebel stage.

Re: why are they so rough!
Just be patient and consistant and you two will get through it. Mental stimulation games will help as well.

Here's a link that will help with indoor activities
http://staffy-bull-terrier.com/indoor_dog_games
I usually play tug of war with Suki to tire her out if the weather is bad or we have to go out for a long time

Re: why are they so rough!
I train Buddha by letting him pull me on the skateboard. It works really well. Just a tip
Anyway. As JStaff already mentioned, basic training is probably really good in thees cases.. I'm reading through some threads now because Buddha bit a person for the first time today. He was in a fight with a dog and bit the other dogs owner when he tried to separate them. I'm sure it was a mistake but I'm still very worried. After the incident Buddha had the chance to be by his side and rolled over on his back right away. A good sign that hi's not really aggressive at least..
My thoughts are to try to focus apart from the incident and look at my training with him. I think in my case, I'm moving forward to fast. I should not let him loose with packs of dogs in a while, that's a given! Other things I can do is restrict him more again, the first week I had him I had a lot of unwonted rules for him. He wasn't aloud everywhere in the house. I think I will introduce this again to make him observe my commands more. Also I will be more calm and not play so much with him as I have done lately. I know I excite him when I do it and that I don't wont him to be in that state, but he's having fun and so am I. But if this is the consequence I need to rethink, at least for the moment.

Re: why are they so rough!
Thanks all.
Thats such a shame about what happened Erik it sounds very much like a mistake.
I know what u mean tho about when u play they get so hyped.
Iv got young nieces and nephews and i hardly have then with me as shes just too rough and my sisters dont see the difference between a mouth n a bite. They dont like her much cos of her breed.
Shes just so enthusiastic with her greetings to all.
Iv never gave her run of the house as she is too destructive i think left in a bedroom she would eat the duvets lol

Re: why are they so rough!
Just a couple of ideas for mental stimulation games to play in the home: keep any old egg boxes to hide treats in, hide treats around the home for her to find (you could also use pieces of carrot) also hide treats in old cereal boxes for her to find. Hide treats in an old wrapped up blanket or old item of clothing - jumper sleeves are great for this.

Although that isn't a pleasant thing to see don't mistake this for aggression. Fact is that when two dogs are fighting there is no way in hell you should get in between them or grab them around their necks or put yourself anywhere near their mouths. When dogs fight and you try to get in between them or grab them by the collar you become a threat. They are so hyped up they don't know what is going on around them so for someone to suddenly grab them they don't know if that's a dog or a person they just react, fight or flight
