diluted alopicia help needed
hi all, here's a bit about us. I have a blue boy Debo aged 6 and a white boy Smudge aged 2, both have been neutered. Debo started losing his fur on both his sides a while ago so after lots of tests and biopsies he has been diagnosed with diluted alopecia which occurs alot in blue coloured dogs. since the biopsy 3 weeks ago he has lost a lot more fur and is losing it now on his ears/head as well. im wondering if anybody has been through this before or has any advise? we know there is no cure, the vets advised us to buy a spray to go in his food and are looking into if melatonin tablets will help. his health is perfect apart from his thyroid results are on the low side of good but apart from that he is 100% crazy but normal. it is not an issue at all how he looks, im used to having a bolding staffy but since we are new to this we need some advice so he doesn't get any sort of infection ect since his skin now gets irritated quickly. we are buying him some jackets for colder days on walks also. our younger dog is constantly licking him where his fur has fallen out and just wanted reassuring it wont do harm. thankyou for reading this essay.

Re: diluted alopicia help needed
you really need to ask your vets if they not sure ask them if they know an vet who knows more about fur and this illness
Re: diluted alopicia help needed
I have asked and they have told me what they know. they are contacting another vet who will know more and a shampoo specialist and are getting back to me. we have been told his fur wont grow back and he may lose it all. because his skin is not protected by his fur anymore I don't want him getting any infections or irritations. I have read a lot about it but its always good to hear from other people who can relate or people that can give advice if they have been through this because I know no body that has. thankyou for taking the time to read and comment

Re: diluted alopicia help needed
Daisy was misdiagnosed with seasonal alopeacia when she had demodex but we were told to buy some melatonin tablets online which we did and she had them for a few weeks xx

Re: diluted alopicia help needed
awwww poor girl, did she have to go through the blood tests and biopsies? on ours one of his surgery wounds split open and had to be stapled it made a right mess and has taken a while to start healing. since he had the op fur has just disappeared very quickly in different parts of his body now. im going to do some research myself on the tablets, are they helping her? x

Re: diluted alopicia help needed
It's just a simple skin scrape to determine demodex As it's a mite that lives in the hair follicle, touch wood she's been all clear for over a year but she was almost bald at one point (her story is in the rehab section) the reason for her getting it was her immune system being poor probably through bad breeding so I give her supplements now to boost her immune system and now feed raw too, she is doing really well

Re: diluted alopicia help needed
ahhh I see, they didn't know what was up with him so they did all the tests to rule out thyroid and other hormone related diseases. I will have a look for her story in a minute. we have been talking about the raw diet for a while now so will also have another talk about it. thankyou for this, like a said I know no body else with dogs that have this or have fur loss so any advice or happy stories help a lot x
