Re: pidigree jumbone chews
The Tedster doesn't like them, he will take one off me then drop it somewhere and not bother with it.
The rescue dogs I walk ( 2 x Staffie Xs and an AmBull) all love them. With Duke, the Ambull they are really useful when I get him out of the runs because it gives his mouth something to do. He can be a bit hyper for the first 5 minutes.

Do you mean the dentastix chews Steve ?, these give Rocky an upset tummy and made him sick so we stopped giving him them.

Re: pidigree jumbone chews
If they enjoy them as a treat now again it's probably not a big issue
There are lots of dried meat treats if your wanting something different

Re: pidigree jumbone chews
We get these for Rocky and cut them up into small pieces and hide them around the flat for him. He loves them:

Re: pidigree jumbone chews
Hi steve i gave it to peppa once or twice and she likes it I think it's ok in moderation. Today I gave her sea jerky by fish4dogs when i trained her and she learned 2 new tricks: dead dog and high five in 10 min! So highly recomanded it's just baked fish skins dental treats.

Re: pidigree jumbone chews
Ledger had the odd jumbone but I'd now give a frozen mince stuffed hoof, duck wing or a sweet potato kong
He has a couple of dentistix a week mostly as he always gets one at bedtime off my parents and I leave one downstairs for him when I'm on nights (most mornings he hasn't come down all night so i save it for the next night)
Used to have some amazing chew strips from Pero they were soft so could also be ripped into little training tid bits bought a big tub last time and just ran out but it seems they don't do them any more

Re: pidigree jumbone chews
Tbh Pedigree anything I stay away from. Dried stuff like hooves and rawhide can be bad - they use a lot of chemicals to dehydrate the rawhide to get it as hard as it is. Also, our staffies are so strong they crunch off big pieces that can get stuck. Before I knew all this I had to help Roxy pass a few pieces of hooves that she'd munched off with doggy laxative. I think things like the dentastix would be far more digestible though.

Re: pidigree jumbone chews
try cerea chews, my dog that gets a upset stomach easily gets on well with them and they are all natural and help keep the teeth clean too, any pet store should sell them, no pricey either
Re: pidigree jumbone chews
My two have a dentastick each and every now and they will have a jumbone as a treat. if your dog likes them its only like giving your kids some sweets once a week.
as for bacteria, its everywhere and so are my dogs mouths especially while out on a walk. Dogs have a stomach which is very good at sorting out bacteria developed over thousands of years from eating rotting meat. they are scavangers as well as hunters so wont pass on a few days dead rotting carcass. what seems to get them more is sudden diet changes, overly rich foods, poisoness food and allergies.

Re: pidigree jumbone chews
I don't give them, simply because Biscuit turns her nose up at them, and I work so hard to get her a grain free food, I don't want to stuff a load of rubbish into her with treats. For chewing she gets knuckle bones, animal feet, a whole rabbit or fresh pigs ears. But most of the time it's just kongs stuffed with nature diet, sweet potato or banana. She has home made sweet potato chews and home made mackerel loaf/dried liver for training treats. As well as lots of raw veg (she loves carrots/broccoli/strawberries/blueberries/banana)
