Rocky gets through a 6 kg bag of Barking Heads kibble about every 6 - 7 weeks, it's about £23 per bag.

My gosh Moo has a big appetite! She gets through 12kg roughly every 4-5 weeks! Costs £56, she is on Science plan JD veterinary diet for her arthritis. Ideally I would feed raw but haven't the space to do it Xx
With all her supplements she costs a lot more Xx

Haven't really worked it out but roughly around £25-£30. She is raw fed. Get most of it straight from a meat supplier so is a lot cheaper than the butchers.

per month ..
aprox. £34 for 'natures-menu' pouches ..
plus a bag of 'royal canin' dry food ..
( she don't like the dry stuff .. so i mix some in with her wet food
( now and again ..
that .. plus 'treats' ..
'n sardines or tuna .. now and again ..
and goji berries 'n coconut oil with just about every non-fish meal ..
( not figured cost on that :-)
oh .. and she has her own jar of 'hilltop honey' .. raw creamed made from British Bees :-)
gets a teaspoon of it for after-dinner .. or breakfast before her morning walk ..
( she loves manuka .. but that gets a bit tooooooo expensive ..
( .. turns her nose up at the darker tasting honeys that i like .. e.g organic-rainforest 'n such )

£25 ish for the basics (Wainwright's wet & JWB kibble)
Can't really add up the extras for treats as they vary.

Bane's fed raw and it probably works out at about £30-£40 a month although that may change as we have found a very nice generous butcher

Re: How much do you spend per month on dog food?
In the week i cycle between either jwb or wainrights with a half a tray of wainrights wet added to the evening meal. i get through about 15kg of that a month. at the weekends i use greyhound racing food mixed with either raw mince beef or fish as they are more active. tbh its complete crap cheap as anything dog food but has a very high protein content and they are on fire with it. it ranks low as i guess it isnt made from kobe steak and organic veg but they work well on it the reason i use it is that if i dont they both loose weight very quick on normal food. I also suppliment with vetzyme B plus E with zinc and selenium only £4 for 2 dogs per month. coats are great, both lean and well muscled and poops are always well formed so must be working okay.

Re: How much do you spend per month on dog food?
Ooh you've all got very lucky dogs Biscuit is fed nature diet with raw carcasses and bones for chewing! I make all of her treats now and that's only about £5 a month for ingredients!
Mark, he's still little so will probably be eating a little more, but Iams has also got lots of fillers/additives in it so you will have to feed more to keep the weight on him, many of it's ingredients dogs just don't need or get and nutritional benefit from. I'm sure if you switched to something like wainwrights you'd see a big difference

I'd say about $100-$150 or so including treats. We just switched to raw recently and it is expensive here

Re: How much do you spend per month on dog food?
Axl is a pain in my backside with eating he's so fussy so we spend about £50(ish) a month on a big bag of James Wellbeloved kibble and probably about £3-4 a week on getting him tuna or sardines as he won't eat it otherwise, we did give him cheese but now he's gone off that too.... fussy is not the word

Re: How much do you spend per month on dog food?
Debs, seeing as you're spending that much anyway, would you not consider feeding nature diet? Personally, now that I can't feed raw I think it's the best alternative. It's a complete diet and the ingredients are very basic:
Chicken 65%, Rice 10%, Vegetables 7%, Natural Ground Bone, Seaweed Meal, Vitamin A 2,556 IU, Vitamin D3 213 IU, Sodium Selenite 0.1mg, Ferrous Sulphate Monohydrate 22.7mg, Copper Sulphate Pentahydrate 6.8mg, Manganese Sulphate Monohydrate 5.3mg, Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate 71mg.
Biscuit is doing amazingly well on it and I buy in from berriewoods wholesalers (online), I feed Biscuit 1.5 trays a day so it works out at less than £30 a month. Plus, with the offer that I have (4 boxes of 18 trays for £50) you can get 4 different varietys so he'll never get bored.. so I usually get 1x chicken, 1 x rabbit/turkey, 1 x lamb and 1 x fish (though it STINKS!) so there's lots of different proteins too.. all with a minimum of 65% meat and the rest made up of bone/veg/rice/vitamins. Nature diet with bones to chew from the butchers and mackeral loaf home made treats have Bis in as good condition as if she was on raw.

Re: How much do you spend per month on dog food?
Yeah I have been looking at that again, my mum feeds her dog nature diet with a bit of kibble. Would you leave the kibble out of it?
I must admit I did grab a tray off my mum and he absolutely loved it, I mixed it in with kibble but that's when his problems started and I wondered if it was the protein in the food, is that possible do you think?
Also, I'm not sure I feel confident enough to give him a bone to chew as I'm not sure which ones are okay for him and which ones might get stuck or cause problems...

Re: How much do you spend per month on dog food?
Yeah i'd leave the kibble out, they're both complete diets so don't need both, though it wouldn't harm him adding the kibble in, but there's no need.
How often was he eating the food when the problems started? What's the protein content in your current food? Nature diet isn't really that high.. 9/10% but if concerned you could feed the lite version which is 8%. Because Biscuit has so much nervous energy I try and keep her protein content fairly low and she does really well on ND behaviourally.
I give Biscuit knuckle bones, but always monitor and take them away when they're getting too small as she had tried to swallow it once or twice! But the bones are usually as big as her head so no worry of swallowing, only problem is too much makes her constipated (thought can also cause loose motions depending on the dog!) She also gets whole rabbits (fur included, though she prefers defluffed) and trotters etc.

Re: How much do you spend per month on dog food?
Stella has Wainwrights turkey and rice trays (senior). 1 per day which works out at about £25 per month. I also spend on treats/supplements.
I have found that as she has got older, her appetite has increased, in fact she's very greedy now which she never used to be. Has anyone else noticed this with their elderly dog? I have to be careful with treats etc because excess weight is a no goer with her arthritis.

Spend more on the dogs' food than I do mine!
They both have Natural Instincts (raw), plus sardines, eggs, horrendously expensive Cortaflex for joints.
With heaps of feelwells treats throughout the month.
Suppose at least £70 a month

It was shortly after we started feeding ND, so maybe a week. I'm not sure it was the food effecting his behaviour it was just one thing that was different when his behaviour suddenly changed
I will have a look at his food tonight and see what the protein content is and let you know

Re: How much do you spend per month on dog food?
We feed buster Eden holistic multi-meat and fish costs £58 inc delivery for a 15kg bag and usually lasts 2-3 months. He also gets plenty of treats and a bit of raw occasionally plus what ever else he manages to find/steal.
This is Eden in case you have`nt heard of it I read up on practically every dry dog food before deciding on this.

Re: How much do you spend per month on dog food?
About £35-40 a month per dog so £70-80 but more this month as the butcher had turkeys for £2/kg for a 5kg bird so bought 3 and decided to buy 2 lambs legs ASDA had them at £4/kg from £6.50/kg because neither dog liked DAF lamb mince cats wouldn't eat it either

Hi Rachel, touchwood, he's doing good on this food. His poo's are solid, he loves eating it and he hasn't had a Colitis flare up either (touchwood again lol). Natures Menu also do a pack of freeze dried treats of the same food, using the same ingredients so we got him them too. Would recommend this food for any dog with digestive problems, sensitive tummies. They also do Salmon & Raspberry, Duck & Plum and Rabbit & Cranberry in the same range.

Took your advice Rach, tried him on just NatureDiet, he has about the same as Bis 1.5 trays a day and he loves it, more to the point he's doing great on it and his poops are so much better and smaller! I'm very happy

Between £60-£80 with treats.
I use Burns Wet food mixed with their mixer biscuits at 6ish, Burns dried kibble after morning walk and training stuff.
I also use Burns kelties and Fish for Dogs sea-jerky treats as training motivators although once she has had one small treat as far as she is concerned training is over for the day. She will occasionally chew on a raw big beef bone bust that is pretty much it.
I have tried a range of other foods from Arden Grange, Wainrights, RAW and she would NOT eat any of it. Burns is the only thing apart from a cooked chicken that she has ever got excited about eating.
I have bought a small pack of Autarky for her to try. It would be easier fo she will accept some dried kibble when she goes on far longer walks with my hubby.

I ordered from Vet UK this time but my mum has got somewhere cheaper or so she reckons Just ordered 3 x 18 trays for £41 which I thought was pretty good?
I put him on 1 1/2 to start with to see how he goes, I don't think he's lost any weight so I'll keep him on that but saying that the recommended amount for his weight is 2-3 trays a day!! I thought that was way too much, could that be a working dog's recommendation?
I can't feed him the lamb one as the smell of it makes me gag so I stick to chicken and chicken and lamb, no complaints yet
