Lexi seriously Ill :(

My beautiful Lexi is in intensive care at our vet for the 3rd night following an episode of vomiting & diahorrea over the weekend. They discovered yesterday that she had a blockage in her lower intestine so had to operate to remove it immediately. She has swallowed a mini corn cob (hard part) whilst out on a walk - presumably left over from someone's BBQ and it can't be digested so gets lodged in their stomach. She has recovered from the op, but now faces possible peritonitis or pneumonia as a complication following surgery. We are completely lost without our mad dog & have everything crossed for a full and speedy recovery x
Please be aware of your beloved pets eating anything whilst out & about - the vet bill already exceeds £3500 & will continue to rise - insurance will cover our costs, but would yours?

Thank you xx. Yesterday she looked awful - so skinny & pathetic. She knew we were there but could hardly focus on us as she was in so much pain. Today was better as we got some tail wagging & her ears pricked & she came out of the crate to see us, but she's a shadow of herself. Lots of love & hugs to be given for a very long time hopefully xx

Ah Jo, I know what you have been through. They worry us so damn much sometimes and we would all do what we can for them.

I hope things are on the up today and that tail is wagging more ferociously.

We've just had a call from the vets and she has had a good night & has managed to eat a little rice & chicken too xx. Happy days! We will be going in to visit again later for more hugs

All the love & hugs being sent her way have been given by the bucketload . Thank you everyone! Today Lexi looked much more like herself, although will take a lot of building back up to her usual bouncy self. She's eaten everything today that has been given (so much more like her!) and the vets are really pleased with her progress & have begun the process of reducing her pain relief & Iv meds, with a view to her coming home to continue recovery at the weekend they do need her to complete toileting first though, just to ensure her system is running smoothly...

Happy day! . Lexi is home now continuing her recovery with a bagful of meds & some strict instructions. Doesn't look like i will be having any early nights or lie-ins for a while with the timings for her meds, but I don't care as long as she keeps getting better . She wanted to come home, but took a while to settle & wasn't too happy about having to share attention with our other 2 dogs, but is now comfortably snuggled up with our silly Milly x. May I say that I have never been so happy & excited to see a dog poop as I have today when we went for a short walk! Thank you everyone for your support- it has kept me going this week when things have been difficult xx

Hi guys . Lexi is bouncing back to her normal self at an amazing rate! I'm happy to report that other than looking rather skinny still & having a rather long wound, you wouldn't guess that she was close to deaths door this time last week! I'm not getting much sleep with having to administer meds at all hours until told otherwise & she's a bit confused as to why Milly & Charlie are having normal food & normal amounts when she has to have a bland diet & smaller meals, but once the vet has given the go-ahead tomorrow (hopefully) her normal diet can begin to be reintroduced, the stitches will come out in just over a week, and off lead exercise can start again once the wound has healed.

That's great news, what a relief

Went for a check up today & Lexi dragged me into the vets and jumped on the vet that operated & oversaw her recuperation. They were astounded at her recovery xx. Nothing short of miraculous, considering they only operated last Tuesday! Two other vets that were also involved in her care also couldn't believe how quickly she has bounced back. I'm a very lucky & very proud owner of a very beautiful & fortunately very healthy young staff who has been given another chance by the local professionals xx. (())

Really is amazing how quickly they recover when they are fit and healthy and well cared for.
