stubborn staffy
Woody has now got a new party trick. When we go over to the fields near my house and are on the way back we have to cross a zebra crossing. Now there is a pet shop to the left off the zebra and my street is to the right. if i try to head right to go home Woody will lie down and refuse to move (sometimes whilst we are on the crossing). Now this is a busy road and i can just imagine the howls of laughter in passing cars. i have tried every trick in the book....bribery/ignoring him to get him to move and the only way he will move is if i start to head left, if i try and turn back right again he refuses to move and lies down again. he will only carry on moving if we carry on left and actually go into the pet shop................he has been known to sit outside the shop on a sunday when it is closed!!!! now luckily the owners of the pet shop adore him so we will go in, not purchase anything get a bit of fussing and then he will happily leave the shop and walk right to go home. I cant help but laugh at him when he does this as its too funnybut any ideas on how to stop him stalking the pet shop woman???

Re: stubborn staffy
No idea at all! Other than going home a different way! I sympathise with the lying down bit, Dempsey does that at the park if I won't let him say hello to another dog, or when I'm ready to go home.........trying to get a 5 stone BT to stand up when he doesn't want to isn't the easiest thing I've ever had to do!

Re: stubborn staffy
that is so funny to me.. but I bet it is frustrating to you!
Clever Woody thinks if you have to go into the pet shop you will be bound to buy him a treat! That to me is so adorable!! Meanwhile you have to go this charade everytime!

Hahaha. Fantastic. Had a similar problem with a public park near my flat when my Shep was younger.
Take a single carrot (or whatever treats you want) with you on the walk. Don't let the pooch see em. When he lies down, that's your time to bribe to get him off the zebra.
Eventually (if he's in it for the goodies as Sasha was), he'll figure that he gets the good stuff following you.
Or do what I do now. Pick em' up and tote em across.
Either way, they'll soon get the message.... we hope.
Just like kids and ice cream these ones "I want it. I want it. <Hold Breath>"
