small rant lol
In my area there are a lot of staffy owners the majority of them under the age of 16 it really chaps my ass when I am walking my staff and I keep getting asked how hard my dog is and if it could take their dog I consider my self a responsible staff owner this upsets me has anyone else experienced anything similar and if so how did you deal with it

Re: small rant lol
I had it all the time when I was living in Bristol, Biscuit has to be muzzled in public so didn't help. Was constantly asked stupid questions; "is that a pit" "she looks aggressive, where can I get a dog like that" etc etc. I figured their rudeness didn't require me to be polite so I would generally tell them to "f*c* off, and educate themselves." Sorry, you just can't be rational with the irrational. There was one guy that she growled at whilst we were in a dark alley walking home and he was approaching, I apologised as I always do when she shows aggression (only through fear/lack of socialization) and he just said "nah it's good when a dog shows aggression, can I buy her off you." We live by the moors now and avoid the scumbags.

Also, I probably wouldn't recommend verbally abusing these people, they're usually mindless idiots and not afraid of trouble. I'd just try to ignore them now that I'm a little older and wiser, don't rise to them!

i have the same problem where i live in wednesbury it's staffie central and almost daily i have people wanting to buy tessa off me because she is really big for a bitch. i just tell them they couldn't afford her if she was for sale.
the sad thing is i know there is still a lot of dog fighting goes on in my area.

Sorry we don't have that problem here. I would think the best option would be to try to polietly educate and move on

Re: small rant lol
A lady a few doors down from me was approached by a guy who asked her to let the dogs fight she told him to get lost and he threatened to punch her and take the dog she told him she`d smack him one back. The guy walked of but she said it really shock her up.
Today when me and my daughter were walking Lula a guy was putting rubbish in his bin and asked her age. I told him she was 16 weeks old he said she was big for 16 weeks. I told him about the site and said she was one of the smaller puppies on here. The guy has two puppies at 14 weeks old a white staff and a blue one. I was asked if i was interested in breeding her and i said no i was getting her done after her first seasons.

We went to the park today, saw quite a few staffys then we came across a couple of young lads with a couple of staffs letting their dogs play fight over a stick, well we all know that staffy play fighting can be vocal but others don't so we saw them pulling their kids away, which the couple of idiots seemed to enjoy felt like stringing them up with there cheap oversized gold chains hanging round there necks.

Re: small rant lol
its really shocking to me that some people presume that because you have a staffy u must want them to fight or be aggressive! where i live i have only ever had one person comment that she thought my dog was going to bite her! lots of people say what lovely dogs i have (and of course they are) i do have a few lads now and then that ask me what breed chester is then they feel the need to say they have a pitbull at home (not sure if this is supposed to impress me?) i d try and ignore the idiots and smile at the smarter folk that have the sense to realise your just another owner walking your dog!

I didn't realise what a good area I live in lol. I have Sons aged 16,17, and 19, and even imagine them or any of their friends saying anything like this. I am shocked that these people really exist. I originally come from a real tough area of South London, but my God, things must have changed.

I personally blame films that depict staffs as hard dogs so to speak. the area I live in has been hit bad by unemployment because of tata steel works loosing thousands of jobs witch has made people become bored and the will do anything for entertainment these days especially with dogs its very upsetting

Re: small rant lol
There was a lad last year in the park that was with his group of friends in the park and my dog walking friend warned me about him as he let it approach his gsd and give it agro. He saw us coming, ran to his dog and leaded it. Wise move if it was da as marley is the slap down king. In contrast we met a guy tonight who had been trying to catch his cocker for 45 mins and after 10 with marley it was shagged out and let one of the guys catch it.
I must say though one of the worst things ive heard was a group of lads as we walked past and one said they aint worth nicking they have been trained to well.. try it sunshine its not the dog you have to worry about.

Re: small rant lol
I agree tony although the rspca have been getting involved in my area more and more recently but I think people need to be educated on the breed more my farther has always had collies whilst I was growing up and told me those types of dogs are evil (staffs) but since I have had mine he cant sing there praises loud enough I think more people need these sort of experiences then the fear will go and idiots will no longer be able to use them as a weapon just my opinion

Its actually getting better over the past couple of years. I see far far less now than I did say 5 years ago. Maybee the chavs are realising its eating into there booze cache... the stigma is still there though. Now all the fair weather walkers are coming out again there hiding there children in the trees and walking past with squeaky buttocks....retards. ...

Re: small rant lol
I'm fortunate that we don't have an issue around here. There are of course other parts of town that I am sure it is still deemed as being cool to have a Staff !
The one concern I do have is with two younger fellas (I'm get old I know) that live not far away. They have 2 Staffs, one is quiet mature, but the other is much younger. Both are off the lead on a busy high street ! The younger one really seems to cower when being recalled though.
There is nothing to suggest mistreatment and could just be the way I have been seeing things but will keeping an eye out.

Re: small rant lol
I am hoping that the SBT is losing the"Status Dog" tag among the Chavs are realising that they are not the "Attack Dogs" that thay are portrayed as.
Unfortunately they will probably start to focus on other breeds. But, as a SBT lover, at least we might get left in a bit more peace.
At one time it was GSD, then Doberman, then Rotty, now Staff. Its about time the Media moved on......

Re: small rant lol
So crazy that staffs get tagged with attack dogs pmsl. I have a few friends that train protection dogs and they all say the last dog they would use is a staff. They look the part but when it comes down to it they treat everyone like the best friend they havent met yet.... compared to a gsd, belgian mal etc they dont compare. But if your like me its why I got one. Dont need a dog to fight my business but will fight to look after my dogs

I have spent more time standing up for my Staffords against ill informed people than I ever did for my three Sons or myself.
My Sons and I often deserved what people were saying about us, my dogs just could not have been more different to people's views. lol.

i would like to know why a pitbull , a dog argentino a japanese tosa etc are banned in the uk and not other "types" i feel the government (as with everything) dont have a clue on how to handle any situation and let the press rule whos bad in many situations and whos good! taking ownership of peoples responsibilities is where it needs to start if im a bad owner surley (im not) thats where the blame lays not the dog they at the end of the day are an animal and we need to respect that and train and be vigile with them more thought needs to be in enforced into who is capable of owning a dog ive been biten 3 times by dogs 2 were yorkshire terriers and once by a german shephard (obviously a yorkshire terrier isnt going to cause as much damage as staffy etc) german shepard long story not much damage either! but everytime i hear a news report on dog attack i wait for it to be staffy or pitbull related things need to change in my view!
