8 month old Tucker Pulling and trying to run while walking
Hi everybody, I was after some advice to turn walking from a nightmare into a dream. Every time we walk Tucker he immediately starts pulling and trying to drag me down the street. He use to walk nicely and only since we moved house has he started this behavior which coincides with his latest growth spurt making him a very strong puppy. it is very hard to break his focus at the best of times but while walking even treats don't work. He is getting very strong and I feel like I am losing control of him, which worries me. He is the happiest most loving little guy but his prey instinct is strong and he walks like he's on the hunt. Also I train him to "look at me" to help break his concentration though he ignors me when we're outside. HELP!

Re: 8 month old Tucker Pulling and trying to run while walking
Hi and welcome from Flo and me. I would think this is entirely down to him growing (how old is he ?). Sounds as though you are doing the right thing as best you can with the treats etc.
Would it be an option to take him to classes ?

Re: 8 month old Tucker Pulling and trying to run while walking
Sorry I should have seen his age in the title. I think he is pushing boundaries and being a strong little fella it probably isn't that easy to hold him back.
It really is all down to training. Let us know how you get on.

Re: 8 month old Tucker Pulling and trying to run while walking
hia from me and sasha ,he's gorgeous ,when we were training sash every time she started to pull we would stop her and make her sit then carry on,it meant the walk would take ages but a few times of doing it plus a treat every time she soon got the hang of it

Re: 8 month old Tucker Pulling and trying to run while walking
Welcome from Bane and I Tucker is gorgeous! Love his eyes. We have problems with Bane's heal, he is perfect inside but a nightmare outside. We also use the stop and sit when he pulls and then carry on when he looks at us. Walks take aaaages and it is very frustrating but seems to be working!

1.Exercise
2.Discipline
3.Affection
Hi from Amazon, Chig and myself
It is hard to control an excited dog. My 10 week old does the same time to time. I would suggest to run with her, get all that energy out, then discipline her. It's easier to discipline a calm dog than a excited one. I would recommend watching 'Cesar Millian'.In particular ,how to raise the perfect puppy'.
*Some like his methods some don't, opinions vary but exhaust all sources of knowledge I say
