Introducing Tucker
Hi everyone!
I'm Ria, and I have a beautiful staffy called Tucker, who's been on foster with us since 1 January 2012. He had a pretty terrible time before he came into the rescue, and arrived via the pound with his tail broken in two places, and his third eyelid gland hanging out. After surgery to amputate his tail and to stitch his eye gland in place, he was probably one of the most anxious dogs in kennels. His non stop spinning caused massive concern, particularly when wearing a plastic shade (he wrecked 5). The likelihood of him being adopted in that state was absolutely zero, so on the same day that I rehomed foster number 9, I went straight to the rescue and brought Tucker into foster.
When he arrived he also had a dose of kennel cough and a massive worm infestation. Then, to complete the hat trick, at the end of May this year, he damaged his cruciate ligament and cartilage just taking a sudden turn when retrieving his ball. He underwent a TTA operation on 3 June. Thankfully, I have a very kind and compassionate vet (who just happens to be my next door neighbour), and recognising his rescue status (and probably embarrassed by my pleading and begging ), the surgery and the orthopaedic surgeon put a ceiling of £1,000 on his treatment. I immediately started to fundraise, and set up an auction on his Facebook page and arranged a sponsored walk. So far, my fundraising has topped £1,500. I have never felt so relieved!! I now have a 'trust fund' for him to receive some hydrotherapy to help rehabilitate the knee in the best way possible.
As Tucker has been on foster for over 18 months, and because his rehoming requirements are so specific because of his anxiety, it has been decided that he will remain on permanent foster and his status is now a sponsor dog. I will continue to raise funds to secure his future and hopefully reduce him being a burden on the rescue funds.
Take a look at his Facebook page (and Like his page )
