They might not ever play together you need to get them to tolerate each other. I have 4 cats and 2 Staffs

Hi, it took awhile for my cat to get used to tolerate Jed, Jed runs around her and she just meows and swipes at him, maybe in time they will play but she didnt play with my last dog either. I guess some do and some dont but as long as they can get on

Please come and introduce yourself here
https://staffy-bull-terrier.niceboard.com/f7-new-member-introductions
Years ago with our last dog (not staff) we already had our cat. To introduce them we had the dog on the lead (rescue centre said she was ok with cats) and let our cat's curiosity get the better of her. She got braver and kept getting closer to the dog until they had a sniff of each other. Then we had a slightly longer lead, until we felt ok to let her off. In our case the dog chased cat playfully, cat was bit worried and got onto the dining chairs which were tucked under the table. They had a bit of game with the cat hopping "safely" from chair to chair under there. Dog got swiped at a few times. Then they were fine. If you are having problems after intros, could you put your dog on a lead or long line and let the cat in? The dog may be scaring the cat by rushing at it?

Snoop and Tiger would just walk passed each other if he got too close Tigger would swipe him. Snoop was very good with are moody cat but you could not give either food in front of the other. Lula likes Tigger but don`t think he is a huge fan of hers. They will now go closer and he has let Lula sniff him but she got a little close and that paw came up to swipe her. we are getting there its just took time but i don`t ever think they will play together

Re: cat no like staffie : (
Time and familiarity is often the key. As said above, it may just end up as tolerating each other. I found it a bit like Human Siblings, they didn't seem to like each other until an "outsider", another cat, or Fox in my case tries to attack one or the other, the loyalty suddenly came to the surface and well, lets just say the Fox did not return.
This is after I used to spend my evenings removing the claws from Busters head when they first lived together.
Nature provides both species with their coping mechanism, Cats, very smart and quick, Stafford, Powerful but comparatively dumb as s**t.

Re: cat no like staffie : (
We are having the same issue - our 8 year old cat is not appreciating the new 10 month old arrival
We've had Radley a week today and he is cat friendly and the cat lived with our other dog all her life and they got on like a house on fire.
I think its just fear of the unknown as far as our cat is concerned.
Currently we have moved the cat upstairs and Radley is kept downstairs, the cat is slowly coming round though, she ventured down today and they had some eye to eye contact before she slinked off back upstairs (Radley was kept under control by holding his collar lightly with lots of calm praise).
The important thing is to keep the dog under control so that they don't chase the cat in the early days, i'm hoping the cat will be back to having the run of the house in the next couple of weeks.
Good luck - you're not alone!

Re: cat no like staffie : (
It depends on the nature if the cat, is the cat timid and shy or is the cat a but more confident? Female cats tend to be a bit more aggressive in my experience and this can help them feel in control of the dog.
I wouldn't recommend this if you have a shy cat but its worked for all our cats in the past and my mum was advised it by a dog trainer of 20yrs. Keep them in a room together for a couple of hours, as long as the dog isn't aggressive in the way that it wants to rip the cat to pieces then it should force them get to know each other and realise that they both live in the sane home. We did this with our 2 cats a couple of months back when we bought Louie home and its worked a treat
