Unexpected meeting with a Rotty in the dark!
I took Koda for a walk last night in the dark as he had some energy to burn & I needed a good nights sleep. 40 mins into the trip we detoured to take a short cut home, less than 1 minute from home I turned the corner with Koda on his lead to see a big rottweiler come bounding down the road at us ! Terrified I screamed (wrong I know!) & thankfully the other dogs owner was outside in her garage and came running down to pull her off Koda (as my OH floundered helplessly somewhere behind me!). The two dogs growled & snapped at each other and the rotty grabbed Koda's neck but her owner thankfully got there just in time and pulled her off him, growled at her and made her sit then drop to calm her as I waited terrified in the middle of the road holding onto Koda for dear life. The owner of the rotty was super responsible in terms of getting her dog under control, apologised over and over and over and made sure we were ok which was great. Good to see a responsible dog owner ! I have to admit though I stereotyped the rotty and was terrified for us all as she came at us, now I feel guilty for that as I think it doesn't matter what breed of dog it is they all act relatively the same, in fact if anything she was actually a lot tamer than I had expected (or experienced before) ! Just wanted to share.

Oh Bek, yours and Koda's nerves must be shot - and your OH?!
Glad the owner seemed responsible thought - had the Rottie gotten out of its house or was it on a walk?

Shot is an understatement, I'll be going the other way tonite when we walk!!!!
The owner had just got home from work and was getting stuff out of her car in her garage with the door up & her rotty had come out to greet her. Just one of those wrong place wrong time things. Really made me think tho bout how nasty it could have been for us all but also how people are scared of staffys even tho we know they'd lick you to death, I was the same with the rotty - definitely judged before anything had happened and assumed was a killer. Think tho we were VERY lucky how take this one was, I've seen plenty that aren't!!

I think if I saw any large dog running towards me I'd be scared! It's wrong but we're only human, we can't help but stereotype sometimes Glad you were all ok!

It was a strange dog loose, rushing towards you, I would be scared too as you don't know how it would react!

Re: Unexpected meeting with a Rotty in the dark!
I was on a walk with Rocky one morning and had two Dobermanns take us by surprise, that was quite scary. They appeared in front of us from a path which was lower than the one we were walking on. I did wonder where they had come from for a moment, Rocky can be reactive to some dogs when taken by surprise.
