First Post to the Australian Area
Well I've not long just read the March newsletter & thought I'd be the first one to post to the new Australian area seeing as no one else has!!!
So I thought I'd ask this question that has been stewing around in my mind ever since I got my Harley boy.
1 or 2 staffies? Is it better having 2?
My boy is fairly hyper so I've been concerned about having 2 crazy dogs causing double the trouble! Or getting lucky & finding him a mate that he'll have have forever to play with & keep him company when I'm at work. Because he is destroying anything he can get his mouth around due to boredom is my guess!
All advice is welcome

I only have one but lots of our members do have two and it works really well, it is nice for them to have a companion

Yes, Harley keeps me well on my toes too Bek which is why I keep second guessing the decision to look for another! I have seen a fair few people walking 2 Staffies & they just look so happy together!

Re: First Post to the Australian Area
I was looking at this just the other week on the council website. There isn't any around my local area. Not sure about the surrounding suburbs.
Would be great if there was!! I'm going through the process now of teaching Harley the recall as he likes to do a little bolt when he's off lead!

Re: First Post to the Australian Area
Honestly I don't find having 2 dogs any more work than 1. Over the years we've had mostly 2 dogs together and they were... 2 rotties (m & f), 1 rotty (m) & 1 dogo (m), 2 dogos (m & f) and 3 dogos (2 m & f). Don't think we'll do 3 again but we'll end up with 2 staffs in the future.
having more than 1 means that they do have more fun with other and "generally" keep out of trouble Dogos like staffs generally don't like being left alone and will get anxious but we never experienced that when we had 2.
My brother back in Perth has 2 female staffs about 12 months apart and they are best friends and he said it was the best thing he did getting the older one a friend.

Re: First Post to the Australian Area
Ever since i was a kid my parents always owned a dog usually only the one. My last dog that had to be put down from old age and many other things was named rock and in the last few months that he was with us he would barely move cause he was so old and sore all the time.
So mum and dad found another dog which they bought as a puppy and you could see an immediate change in rocky its like he had a little friend to play with.
When rocky was put down boris the new puppy seemed like something was missing so we bought him another friend and when you see how 2 dogs get along theres no way you could go back to owning just one dog.
In saying that ive moved out and bought a blue english staffy and the breeders have said that staffys arent so much interested in contact with other dog they are more about being around people all the time which we have found with cooper he just loves people but we are still going to get him a little friend. a friend of mine bought his girl staffy pup around on the weekend and they just went mental in the back yard and had so much fun.
so id say once you buy a second dog you will see such a change that you wont ever want to own a dog without a friend again.

Re: First Post to the Australian Area
I echo the above with having 2 - mine really are the best of friends - from keeping each other company, warm, happy and busy to being partners in crime They are just amazing together.
But, 2 dogs takes 100% consistency, patience and discipline (from the hoomans!). It really pays off though

Re: First Post to the Australian Area
I have 2 staffys they really are in separable, my gypsy female, is extremely hypo, and my Male Jack is very docile.
Gypsy is the boss > , she tells him when she wants to play, its really so cute.
but... they do now and again, pull washing off the line, (anyone got any ideas on that would be great thanks) But I think it is Jack that does this. we have a big backyard, so they run a lot of the time.
They have also had their fights, now and again, but always play together.
They sleep together , Imean usually lie on top of one another, or almost cuddling, so it is good.
hope this helps
