Soft Pallet
Hey everyone.
Just after a bit of advice really.
My girl, Roxy, has always from the day I got her made a snorting sound when she gets excited. Sometimes it's cute, other times it sounds like she looses her breath.
Her eyes also run all the time. We kept taking her to the vets and she had a few courses of antibiotics for her eyes, made no difference at all.
Anyways, she went for her check up just after Xmas and the vet has said, her soft pallet is way too long and needs cutting back. As he said, will cause her a lot of problems when she's older. She currently only 18 months,
He also said this may help her eyes.
So I said fine, if she needs it she'll have it.
My concern is that, they avoid my question when I ask how will they do it. & we had to go in to sort the pre auth form for the insurance and I was asking the vet all sorts of questions about the op, one being her eyes to be told that a soft pallet op won't help her eyes and they will put her to sleep then look to see if they can do anything? Surely they should be checking these things before giving her the anesthetic?
Has anyone else's staffy had a soft pallet op and if so how was it?

Re: Soft Pallet
Sorry Laura I can't help, but tbh it all sounds a little vague to me! Have you thought about a second opinion at a different vets Hun?

Re: Soft Pallet
We got a second opinion but was just from a different vet, same practise. Just really want to know how it's done, and how she will be after? For example, will she be able to eat.
I really like the vets we go to. They've been absolutely brilliant with her as she's been there from day 1.
Just slightly concerned over them not letting on about what the op entails x

Re: Soft Pallet
Perhaps ask can you have a sit down with the vet so they can explain it to you in more detail, she is after all your baby xx

Re: Soft Pallet
I can only echo Hayley. You need to explain to the Vet how you feel and that you want to know exactly what is going to happen

Re: Soft Pallet
Thanks both of you.
I've been waiting for a call from them, so will just go in and see if he's available. And if he can just tell me a bit more about it.
Thanks again xx
