Sorry no never traveled by train with a dog, just check with the train company, I'm sure it will be OK so long as the dog is well behaved.

Me neither sorry, but I can't see any problems as Kathy says give the train company a call to check it out

Re: Anyone travelled by train with their staffy before?
Thanks for the reply Suz, he will more than likely go to sleep thats what he does when i take him in a car. I have read that you are allowed to take dogs on a train, just was a bit unsure about Staffys as i know alot of people have negative opinions on them. Your answer as reassured me tho and i have also contacted the train company so i can't see a problem.

Yep I've been with Ledger a few times on local services and furthest has been just under an hour on virgin trains. Obviously they are not allowed on the seats I just put Ledger closest to the window with me blocking the aisle or stay out of the way on the fold down seats near the toilets where he can pace about a bit, and just take a kong with peanut butter and a pocket of treats to keep his attention as he isn't the sort to just curl up and sleep if there is a chance of fuss off a stranger

Re: Anyone travelled by train with their staffy before?
Used to take my previous Staffie on Trains. He loved it. Although he hated it when the train was busy and I couldn't let him look out of the window from the window seat (Wrong I know but I couldn't resist when the train was quiet and he soooo loved looking out of the window).

Yes! The first time I took her on the underground was quite an experience! Had people taking photos!
Now they have cracked down on the underground so escalators are out unless you carry them.
Over ground we do a lot, she gets a lot of fuss and we have done 3hrs, Devon to home, she just gets in the way sitting in the isle but if you get a table she will settle under it

This is great! I never knew you could take them on the train! Here in Notts they aren't allowed on the tram so assumed they wouldn't be allowed on buses/trains either! Will keep this in mind for the future

i had a reply back from national rail today, they are allowed on the train aslong as they are well behaved and not any problem towards other travelers.

Re: Anyone travelled by train with their staffy before?
I have traveled on the train and the tube with two different Staffies and I really enjoyed it both times. Longest trip only lasted just over an hour but there is no reason not to bring a dog. I would get a seat early so your dog can snuggle in and anyone who is weird about pets can steer clear. I think it is really good to get dogs used to all sorts of different transport. Check that your dog is ok with automatic doors. I had one that couldn't cope with them but I think that was related to past history. The other two are unfazed.

Thanks Rupert it is good to hear positive experiences with trains and staffs. It is making me more confident about taking him and going myself.

Thanks for all replys, what would be a good chew toy or treat to keep him occupied. He loves his treat ball but wont be suitable for the train.
Thanks x

Have you got a kong? You could stuff the kong with sweet potato or peanut butter and freeze it then take it with you

I didn`t know you could take them on trams and trains but will be checking it out. Lula has another vet appointment in a few weeks and may try her on the bus
