Bathing Puppy?
Hello Blue is almost 4 months now, and he's kinda stinky from running around in the rain so often recently >.< I was wondering if it's ok to bath him? I know dogs shouldn't be bathed too often but is there an age limit? Thanks

Re: Bathing Puppy?
no age limit no, but as you say bathing to often strips the fur of it's oils which it needs to keep clean and healthy. Why not wait until hes dry and give him a good hard brush instead much better for his coat

Just bath as little as you need to, I do maybe 2/3 a year but a lot of people do less!

No there is no age limit, our little girl Star is 13 weeks tomorrow and she had her first bath yesterday, she was fine obviously little spooked she even tried to drink the bath water when she first got put into it , Just don't do it too often like it has been said above we will be bathing Star when we bath Prince, so she gets used to it, Prince loves it he jumps in the bath on his own .
Have fun bathing Blue

Re: Bathing Puppy?
I used to bath my Dobermanns when they got smelly and made dirty marks on the paintwork when they brushed past it, but I did find that their coats got scurfy afterwards.
Kuchar's now 2 and has yet to have a bath . One reason is that he's honestly not smelly and doesn't make dirty marks - I can't understand it. And another reason is he hates water like mad (except to drink) so I didn't want to put him through the agony when it didn't seem necessary. I might try bathing him when the weather gets warmer ....

Every dog & owner is different, and advice varies so much. Koda is 13 weeks and has had two, but only because he decided to roll around in a big old clay pot (twice !) and was covered in red dust which I didn't want him licking off. The vet said it's fine ...

good topic , what if like me I live by the sea , im a poet lol .
no, if he gets wet salty and full of sand say each time I take him out , bathing is going to be pretty regular , just to keep him clean .

no need to bath him just for going to the beach or in the sea, i've never bathed them for going in the sea, just a good brush when they are dry.
Over bathing really is detrimental to a dogs skin and coat

Re: Bathing Puppy?
We just give Rocky a good rinse through from time to time or if he is particularly smelly. Yes, washing too often can cause the coat and skin to become dry and this is turn can cause irritation as vital oils are lost from the skin and coat.

We've had to bath Bane so much with medicinal shampoos to try and stop him from scratching but you can really tell the difference afterwards. He may smell sweeter but he goes all dry and dandruffy
I would try just brushing like everyone else said, and if he's a bit smelly, rubbing coconut oil into their fur makes them smell delicious!

When Im in the bath I have to stop Ronnie jumping in with me.
First time he did it I didnt think it was gonna happen until there was an almighty woooosh and the bathroom was flooded and I ended up getting out of the bath I just ran
He is a proper water baby and loves walking in the rain. Loves the shower to.
