Bathing a pup - 7 weeks old?
Hello,
In regard to bathing a pup, when is a good time/age to start. Have been reading things about blue Staffs being prone to skin conditions so do not want to do this too early or with the incorrect shampoo
We have got a shampoo (puppy no more tears) from P at H so we can sponge bathe her but have been worried to do this as she is only 7 weeks and hasn't been to the vet yet for examination. (1st trip next week for 1st injection)
Are we better to wait until after we have gone to the vets?.... as she is getting a bit stinky! lol
Any advice would be really appreciated.

I never bath Moo, and you really don't need to at 7 weeks

What do you mean by "stinky"? She will have a doggy smell, especially when wet, but have only ever bathed Bacchus twice or three times ever, and that was when he was tiny and had an "accident" and sat in it.

Just to add.....smells are relative. My wife thinks a wet dog odour is smelly whereas I just think it's a wet dog smell. She really hates picking up poo but I don't mind with my dog, but other dogs' poos make me nauseous. I don't even particularly mind his phweets while the wife keeps an aerosol air-freshener by her chair:lol:reuben wrote:What do you mean by "stinky"? If the parents aren't registered you can't register the pups I don't think. You'd have to ask the breeder for the details.
We've only had ours a couple of days, he's really coming out of his shell now and starting to cause trouble! He's so lovely though

Tilly has had 1 bath in over 3 years ( about 6 months when shge accidentally went for a swim) Tommy at 1 1/3 has never had one and won't until he gets covered in something gross

as dave says, it's not really a regular thing. Lola only gets a bath if she's been in the sea, or jumps in some of the heavy alkaline mud round this way. in three years, she's probably had no more than 10 baths tops, and only two in the last 18 months.
by the way, the "puppy" smell doesnt last long, enjoy it while you can

I wouldn't be at that age, sometimes its a good thing to have mums scent on them for a while. Vinnie has only ever had 2 baths in 2 years, also a blue boy and his coat is great.

I definitely wouldn't at that age. Let her settle in propertly before you even contemplate a bath! It's likely to scare the life out of her otherwise!
As others have said, there isn't really any need to bathe her unless she's so stinky she makes you gag or is covered in muck.

I wouldn't worry about bathing until they absolutely need it. Rocky has had one since we had him (2 half years). Bathing can strip the skin of the natural oils and leave it prone to irritation. If needed just give a rinse in clean warm water as necessary.
