Things I can do now that I couldn't 4 months ago
Thistle is now 9 months old and is having her first season, I was pondering on how much she has moved on after a few months and reflecting on all the things I can do now that I couldn't do 4 months ago, probably more like 2 months.
I can feed her anything now without any signs of food aggression
I can put on my socks without a tug of war, this includes coats, jumpers, gloves and boots.
I can walk through the room without getting nipped or jumped on, or dragged by my clothes.
I can get up in the morning to a clean kitchen
I can stay in bed until nine O'clock at the weekends
I can say 'have a poo' and she does
I can say 'have a wee' and she does
I can walk down the street without a harness or gentle leader just a lead ,as she trots happily next to me....(mostly) :-)
I can tell her to 'leave' and she does...unless it's a dead squirrel, but a sausage soon sorted that one out
I can tell her to get off the sofa and she does
She will high five, sit, stay, down, stand and wait
I can talk on the phone without her barking at me, same applies to the computer
Things we are working on
Recall when there are other dogs about, she just wants to play, training is on hold until she has finished her season and people stop running a mile when they see a big Staffy, she is a big girl.
Jumping up is still hit and miss, she does to some and not others, doesn't to me.
I know that I will have other challenges ahead of me because she is so capricious, never know what will freak her out next, anything new or different, a book in the wrong place or a new piece of furniture, but it is good to reflect on the positives because I think we all get a bit bogged down with their negative behaviour and the training and discipline seems never ending, it's important to remember to enjoy the dog, which was very difficult in the early months......just thought I'd share :-)

It's great to hear that some things are getting sorted along the way, others may well be phases that they mostly all go through and come out the other side

I've had Toots les than a week and she already knows some words. She instantly reacts to 'her name', 'dinner' 'tidbit', but oddly not ' oigetoffmyslippermyfootsinthere' lol

Re: Things I can do now that I couldn't 4 months ago
Congrats on a job well done. And on the things your working on; persistence pays off. On this thread I can also reflect:
*At six months we have zero nipping or mouthing.
*Tip comes when called and we got recall down to 97%
*she doesn't eat wires anymore and she rarely now steal shoes.
She sits and lie down when asked but we still working on "stay"
When told to "leave it" she would walk away from whatever she was told to leave.
I know this learning will be a lifelong thing for both of us but I'm Prepared for the work ahead.
