Pulling on lead
Just wondering if anyone has any tips for getting pups to walk nicely on a lead? Alfie had gotten really good at not pulling but the last few days it's been more like him taking me for a walk! We're doing puppy training classes so I'm sure it'll be covered in that at some point but I'm keen to get it sorted as soon as possible! xx

Re: Pulling on lead
You may want to try turning around and walking in the opposite direction, this works for some

Re: Pulling on lead
Yes as Kathy has suggested, but I always went with the treat in hand up by my waist way. Let him smell it and move your hand up to your waist after a few steps and he doesn't pull, make him sit and treat. I found doing this over and over really stopped pulling and more heeling

Re: Pulling on lead
Thanks everyone for the advice we touched on this at training today and they're going to be teaching the heel method so I guess I'll stick with that to start with to save confusing him. If I find it doesn't work though I'll give some of the other methods a go xx

Re: Pulling on lead
Can't help here I'm afraid - our 2 are like steam engines, muscling down to the ground to pull even more Coming back from their run, they're fine however. I've got to have an op for carpal tunnel syndrome which I'm sure has been caused by their pulling. Ezydog harnesses help quite a bit. Good luck!! x

Re: Pulling on lead
We started off in the house when he was really young, just saying Heel and walking slowly, every time he followed next to us we would treat him. Then once outside, carry on but make the distances longer. If he pulled we stopped moving until he stopped or sat down then we'd start again. At 5 months he's not 100% but getting there

Re: Pulling on lead
Hey I had the same problem with Lobo until I got the Halti harness. It got so bad, to the point that walks just became something I dreaded. But if you do get it make sure you clip it to a collar and buy the 2metre Halti training lead hope that helps.

Re: Pulling on lead
We started learning "heel" properly in puppy training yesterday and I've just taken him out for his first walk using the new technique.. He was absolutely fab!! Walked by my side the whole time! Only had to stop about 3 times for pulling! Tomorrow he'll probably be a nightmare lol and I know it'll take time to get him perfect at it but at least it's a good start! So proud of him! xx
