butchers tripe
Someone said here once that you could mix alittle butchers tripe into the food to make you dog eat it,wondering what general thoughts are on that considering its only adult based tin food with that flavour.
I am mixing pedigree chum in his dinner, but at most is only a teaspoon which is so little it almost seems pointless but it does work,im still very aware that it isnt a good tin food which is why i waste 98% of the tin and throw it in the bin

I used to add JWB wet to the dry, never used butchers tripe but I would stay away from all those brand they sell in the supermarket!

Re: butchers tripe
The tin will last in the fridge for a day or two just make sure it's covered, no need to waste it.. And as you're using such a small amount and he's older don't worry about it being puppy food. You can buy sachets as well which may work out better if you only use one a day, for example half am and half pm. Nature diet is good, the jwb sachets too. I think it was me that recommended tripe initially as he hadn't eaten for a while and it's a very smelly food that will get most dogs eating again. I don't use supermarket food, but bis was on butchers tripe in kennels and actually did really well on it.

Re: butchers tripe
If you want to feed raw tripe, why not consider changing to a raw diet? I changed Bacchus to raw ( Natural Instinct who do a good variety of complete pre-packed frozen foods + raw meaty bones ) and he loves it and I am amazed at how well he looks on it ( the judge at a recent show commented on his superb condition ). An added bonus is that when picking up after him, his poos are a fraction of the size they were before, are solid and have very little odour. Also his bum burps are rarer and are barely smelly at all.

Re: butchers tripe
P.S. Natural Instinct comes in 1 kilo packs and does him 2 days so a cost of about £1.30 £1.40 a day depending on which meat it contains. Also if you order the working dog variety you don't pay VAT.

Re: butchers tripe
I know not everyone on here is keen on complete raw diet, but the one I mentioned came highly recommended by some of the staffie people up here. It's very convenient for us novices and they use human grade ingredients including crushed bone and vegetables. I also buy lamb ribs, chicken carcasses and lamb necks from them as a treat for Bacchus and he loves these. When they are defrosting he runs onto the garage every chance he gets to sniff the air in anticipation.Broxi wrote:I am switching him to raw reuben
