Roxie has hurt her leg.

Hi All ,

On this afternoons walk Roxie was doing all her usual stuff , running around , chasing sticks , jumping etc ... All was going well until she jumped up for the stick in my hand which I was about to throw for her and when she landed it was on her back , it took her a few seconds longer than normal to right herself and when she did she was holding her back leg up into her body and was looking quite sorry for herself , no yelping or crying though.

When I coaxed her to walk she was walking on three legs so I carried her back to the car , as we passed the swans I put her down for a rest ( my rest :-) ) and she took a keen interest in them as usual ,so I'm assuming she's not in too much pain.

When we got home I dried her off and she slept on my knee for an hour and now she's sleeping on the rug in front of the fire , I think I will she how she is tomorrow and if she isn't walking better I will take her to the vets.

I have checked for breaks and her leg seems fine so I think that she just landed funny and probably sprained something.

Aww poor baby, rest her for the rest of today and see how she goes, hope she's ok

aww poor Roxi, she may have winded herself a bit, she how she gets on and have a good look at her in the morning, hope she's Ok

Poor Roxie, yes I would rest her for a day or say and then pop to the vets if its no better. Sometimes its hard to know how much damage they've done as they have such a high pain threshold!

Awww Roxie it's hard to not get excited when it's play time, but you gotta look after yourself sweet. Rest up & get better soon. x

Quick update , Roxi is still dozing but she keeps stretching and moving her leg , I think that must be a good sign

Hi all , Roxi is still walking on 3 legs this morning so ive made a vets appointment for 10-30 , i will let you know the outcome.

Inflamed knee joint has been the initial verdict , anti imflamatories and painkiller prescribed , have to go back on Monday and if theer is no improvement then an x ray might be needed but i hope it wont come to that.

Shes slightly better i think , still walking on 3 but shes putting it down at standstill and on occasion walks gingerly on it ....i have had her in her crate for longer than i normally would today , just trying to restrict her movement on it because even on 3 shes a little monkey :-) and she needs to rest it , thanks for your concern :-)

I think she will be ok , the vet said go back tomorrow maybe for an xray but i personally think thats not long enough for a muscular injury to show significant improvement , shes had already told me that she doesnt believe theres a break or any major problem so i think its going to be a time thing.

Just a small update on Roxi , its now 5 days since she hurt her leg , ive been giving her the anti inflams every day which the vet gave me and she has progressed to walking on the injured leg but still wont run on it , i suppose time is a healer.

A little progress is better than none x
