best time to get a new friend for sasha

Hi everyone,

Ive bern thinking of maybe getting sasha a friend, she is really good with other dogs.
I was told that it may calm sasha down a bit if she lived with another dog in the house.

Im just wondering if its best to get a puppy when sasha is still young or is it best to wait until she is older and has matured a bit.

All opinions are welcome, thanks as always xx

Personally Jan I would wait until she is maybe 18 to 24 months, although never done this just going by what I have heard from others experience. Unless of course you rescue an older dog   

As inez says general rule of thumb is 18/24 months, people do it earlier too, I've no experience sorry jan xx

Lola was 7 months when we got Chloe who was 2 months so there's only 5 months between them. It was love at first sight but maybe we were very lucky. They've been inseparable since that first day we brought Chloe home.

I have never had two dogs together but I would wait for a gap of about 18 months in age.

Hi Jo, did your youngest still go through the crying at night etc, or did your older pup keep her company xx

I've brought up 2 dogs before and there was only 9 months between them. (Doberman and a Staffy).
They played with each other; and our Staffy soon got the hang of going outside to the loo.
I didn't have any bother with sleeping either as she curled up between the dobermans legs.

We got Chance when harvey was 9 months old, but Chance was an older rescue approx. 18 months old at the time, both males yes but they got on from day one and are the best of friends.

Harvey never was a pup to cry through the night so having Chance here made no difference.

Is it best to get a boy or girl? It is just a thought at the moment, when Sasha is good I think yeah maybe, but then she gets the strops it reminds me what a handful she can be at times, and how far she still has to go before she is mature !!!!

We have settled for having a boy and  girl this time round.
But our last two were boys and they were great together. On saying that; I have heard that two boy staffies might cause fireworks in the same home, but I'll let someone else confirm this who has had experience in this matter.

it's always recommended to have one of each sex, but i don't do bitches, i much prefer males, so i have both boys
