Post by Riverhaven Bella01 Sun Dec 22 2013, 05:11

Hope someone can help with some advise... Bella who is 2  is constantly licking her paws and leaving wet patches on the lounge and bedding.. She has no spots or hair missing so we dont think its allergies and shes treated like a princess so no anxiety.... She has Advantix fortnightly for mites fleas tics etc..... maybe shes just a clean freak?

Sometimes what starts with a little itch can then become a habbit Surprised darcy constantly licks her paws and I'm at my wits end with different things I've tried and she still does it Sad we stop her and distract her to try to stop the cycle, we've tried antihistamines, foot wash, changing foods! Filtered water, apple cider vinegar, goodness knows where we'll go next Sad

Yes probably just got a habit, best to distract her as much as possible before she starts to make it sore.  Big Grin

'Lady' gives her paws .. 'n other bits .. a good licking every night before bed
sometimes she nibbles and licks her paws and lower legs during the day ..
i see it as giving herself a clean .. she's out in the woods or fields / parks daily ..

( i'd only start to worry if it started to become excessive )

Our Staffy is the same. I hope it is a case of intense grooming peculiar to Staffs because we can find no problem other than a possible general allergy to food.

Oh licking paws - this currently wakes me up at night!! She gets on a roll and ends up snorting at the same time. Do you put straight Apple Cider Vinegar on their paws?

Baby wipes could aggravate? I have no idea. They probably smell quite strong to a dog. I second the salt water idea.

It is strange you mention this now as R has been self-grooming to excess suddenly. I hope it will pass and I hope it is not a symptom of anxiety. I wonder if, at certain times of year, the pollen and so forth just irritates their skin? Just an idea.
