Chain or actually dog outdoor tie up line, if you can't get one long enough by one or two and put them together.

Thats what it is, it has a very strong yet thin metal line running through the red rubber on the outside, you may even be able to pick one up at your local hardward or diy store

I would say use the stuff similar to the one suggested, or you can go B&Q and pick up some steel rope with some fixings and make one up yourself. That way, its as long or as short as you want it to be. I cant get a link up at the mo for some reason, but its very strong stuff. Or there is this stuff CLICKY Only 2mm thick and a min breaking load of 225kg that's about the weight of 3 or 4 grown men. Then, just make a loop at each end using a yoke and use some wire rope grips or ferrule crimps to secure. Ok, it doesn't have a plastic or rubber cover, but its stainless steel and used for yacht rigging, so you don't have to worry about rust.

Chain is no good the rattling drives dogs mad, you want a proper dog line which is plastic coated wire cable

yep you can, my mom got our previous staffys one from there for camping etc, i prefer them as they have a rubber around the chain so its not loud PLUS its less likely to catch the skin and pinch if they was to say, get it wrapped around a leg/foot .. can never be too careful i say! lol
