Sleeping in my bed..
Basically do you think I shouldn't let my Poppy sleep in my bed? She doesnt sleep much in her bed, usually she sleeps in mine which I'm fine with BUT I'm not sure whether I'm doing the right or wrong thing? Every night when I'm ready to jump into my bed, she's stood by it staring at me, then when I get into my bed she's waiting for me to let her under the duvet. If I wont say anything, she wont let me sleep. She'll even start licking my face lol. Luckily I'm single so I dont have to share the bed with anyone else but when I do in the future, what is she going to be like? This is what's bugging me...
I need honest opinions,
thanks guys! xxx

Re: Sleeping in my bed..
Its really up to wether or not u allow it.....i dont, my dogs sleep in there bed/crate in the hallway under the stairs and are not allowed upstairs full stop but its a personal choice and i have kids and a hubby so its a different situation. The trouble is that if in the future u do meet someone and have kids ect and u think u wouldnt want her in your bed then. If thats the case i would try and wean her off sleeping in your bed even if she still sleeps in your room with her bed on the floor. Otherwise she may end up feeling like shes been kicked out for someone else and may have neditive feelings towards that person. Its up to you though, theres nothing wrong with it if thats what ur happy with lol x

Lol my mutt is currently laid in between my husband and I. She always lies on top of the covers and has her own little blanket. However we did decide when we first got her not to let her sleep upstairs at all but she kept looking really sad at bed time and we caved

Re: Sleeping in my bed..
Its just a case Of making sure your dog understands it's on your terms.. My madam would quite happily go under the covers but we don't want her too. She used to come up to the top of the bed and Try to nose her way under the covers. If you told her no or held the covers down she would freeze. It was really funny. It was like she was thinking if I stay still they won't notice me. She's got the hint now though and doesn't try

Re: Sleeping in my bed..
Well, it is a personal choice but I would teach your dog to have it's owm bed for sleep, whether it be in your room, next to your bed, in a crate, or a bed in another area of the house. They are all very good at the "poor me" puppy dog look to melt your heart but I believe that they need to know your rules and where they belong. How hard will it be for you and poor Poppy when you find that special somebody who you would like to share your bed with if you just all of a sudden kick her out and you've also got to remember that not everybody wants to share a bed with a dog and it may be a turn-off.
My pup Roxy (currently 4 1/2 months) has had her own bed and blanket in the laundry since day 1 and she knows that is her place. She is comfortable, safe and warm.
The longer you leave it, the harder it will be, but as I said it's up to the individual what they do.
You asked for honest opinions, so this is mine

Re: Sleeping in my bed..
Harry sleeps in my bed with me and although I have a kingsize bed he cuddles in to my back so much that I can't turn over and often find myself sleeping on the edge so I have to get up, walk round the bed and get in the other side to get some space!
Im a widow so don't have the problem of someone sharing my bed, but when my husband was alive we had 2 staffies, a dog and a bitch, and they only used to get in to bed with us both in the morning when we had a cup of tea in bed.

Yep, Moo sleeps on the bed to, wouldn't have it any other way. When I first got her she wasn't allowed on the sofa, now she is my hot water bottle

Re: Sleeping in my bed..
Cairo sleeps in my bed sometimes. If you set rules for her,so she knows when she can and when she cant go on the bed it will make life easyer for you.For example,Cairo isnt allowed in bed when my hubby is in there, but when hes gone to work then she is allowed in with me.(only because im soft with her lol) My hubby has just gone of to work, and shes headed straight for my bed

Because we live in a bungalow Sophie sleeps in her crate which is in our room. In the morning when we let her out for a wee she always gets in to our bed and stays until we get up.

Re: Sleeping in my bed..
my sleep anywhere they want in the summer in the hot muggy weather the rather sleep down stair but it's upto them
Re: Sleeping in my bed..
I'm the same as Blaze on this one, Hollie sleeps in her crate at the bottom of the hallway, she's not allowed upstairs at all, when its bedtime all I have to do is put the key in the door to lock-up and she just goes straight into her crate, I think routine is good for them, like it is for kids

Re: Sleeping in my bed..
I used to love the idea of dogs sleeping on the bed snuggling up with their owners and used to dream of doing it myself when i got a dog of my own.
Then i watched 'This Morning' one day a saw a women who had her face savaged by her 'docile' dog whilst she was sleeping. It wasn't the dogs fault,it simply had a nightmare and lashed out.
Skye sleeps downstairs

Re: Sleeping in my bed..
You have to do what you feel is best for you and poppy maybe get her to sleep on top the bed rather than inside (just thinking about the future )
Bruno has a crate but I don't think he sleeps in it at night but during the day he may do otherwise he sleeps on the sofa or the chairs, he's not allowed upstairs, we have a stairgate between the kitchen and hall/stairs.
1. Because we have a cat and her food is in the hall
2. He's not allowed upstair( but if I had my way he would )
Just do what you feel is right for you
