Sleeping on bed
Hi, we have had our adopted Staffy for a month now and he always slept in a crate. I've been letting him sleep on the bed. My Mum says I should stop, but if I have no problem with it is it OK

Re: Sleeping on bed
Mine sleeps on my bed too, I think its a matter of choice, do you want a duvet in the morning and a slither of bed whilst your clinging on to the edge? Or a bed to yourself??

Lol. My son sneaks in as well and when my partner is here it's usually me clinging onto the edge. When Max(my son) and the Dillon(dog) are inthe bed, it's sweet as Dillon always cuddles up to him. He is actually my son's dog and I need to train him to sleep on the chair underneath the bed in his room. It's like having two kids. Someone told me to be careful of the dog being jealous of Max, but it's the other way around

Cool. I started off with no getting on the furniture. I gave in, there's nothing better than sitting on the settee with Dillon's head in my lap. After all, the research I did before I agreed to take him says that they love cuddling up on the sofa and so do I

Lol, same here!! I rescued her at 8 months and I didn't let her on any furniture!!!! Right now we're snuggled on the sofe, her on her back snoring and I'm sure she'll be in bed before me too! Nothing like a Staffy Snuggle!

Re: Sleeping on bed
When we first got Molly she slept in a crate, then she got over the messing her crate stage and we let her sleep on our bed, then we had the trouble of her stealing the covers and me waking up multiple times a night freezing cold. So, we started getting her to sleep on the floor, however, after getting back from my parents (We were on an air bed, which she could easily climb onto) she started getting on the bed again. We've given in, but some nights she'll get on and get off as we're drifting off to sleep, but soon creep up again. As Janey said, it's all personal preference, I know some people that refuse to let their dogs on the furniture/bed, but as Janey also said, there's nothing like snuggling up with them.

Re: Sleeping on bed
Blue has just had a bad dream I think. Woke up and shot out of his bed. Now he won't get back in it Keeps jumping everytime he goes near it like something is jumping out at him.
But he doesn't mind getting on my bed. Think he has thought of a new cunning plan to get to stay on it

Re: Sleeping on bed
Bandit always slept on the bed! Like you, when we got him I had all these rules, and one of them was "No getting on the furniture or the bed!".
Huh! He was a bit off colour one day & my OH sugested we took him onto the bed with us, and that was it, really. He'd start by snuggling between us at the foot of the bed, but by morning my OH & I were at either side of the bed with about 6" room & Bandit was stretched out in the middle!
Dempsey, however, isn't allowed on the bed because, simply, he's too big!

Re: Sleeping on bed
I have to admit that Dempsey often wakes up early & wanders around. My son's bedroom door doesn't shut properly (OH keeps saying he's going to fix it!) and Dempsey will often push the door open, climb carefully on to the bed (it's quite a low bed) & curl up to sleep!

He notices (how could he not notice 5 stone of dog curling up on his bed!), but Dempsey can't do anything wrong in his eyes, so he just lets him!

I love snuggling up with Hollie on the sofa, but I draw the line at sharing my bed...she has her own bed in her crate at the bottom of the hallway...

Re: Sleeping on bed
Bruno would have to share with me , hubby and my cat
But he can't get upstair as we have a stairgate between the kitchen and the hall as the cats food is in the hall and i don't want bruno eating it, plus the cat doesn't get on with bruno, she's a stroppy cat, she really doesn't like dogs at all, unlike my neighbour's cat, it just let my neighbour staffy puppy jump all over him.
But i can't see what harm it would make, if its alright with you, it doesn't matter what people think
Bruno got a crate with a lovely thick blanket and his toys in , but he sleeps on the sofa or the chairs

Re: Sleeping on bed
We said that once Fritz got bigger none of them could sleep on the bed, then we got Emma and everything went to heck. They sneek in after we are sleeping and get right between us. Tuesday morning I woke to find my boyfriend spooning two dogs, and I was on the edge of the king size bed

Re: Sleeping on bed
The Rule was that charlie could sleep on the bed with me but had to get on his bed next to our bed when my husband came up. That's what happens most nights but if Charlie is sleeping at the bottom of the bed and not in his way, my hubby lets him stay there for the night. But if he tries to get up between us or keeps waking us up, he gets kicked straight out onto his own bed.

Re: Sleeping on bed
i dont let daisi on the bed purely because her wee hairs annoy me. she sleeps up on the sofa though so shes not on the floor. she refuses to lie on the floor, has done since she was a puppy. i love lying up the couch with her. she cuddles in all the time

Sleeping on bed?????
Well, I've had to put Dillon back in his crate to sleep. He has got a skin irritation (off to the vets tomorrow) his scratching was annoying, poor thing, I shouted at him last night, he left the bedroom and went into Max's room for a scratch, so one unimpressed 6 yr old. To be honest i'm not digging the grubby quilt cover, I put a sheet on top, no I'm not sure. Plus he thinks he can jump over the bed any time, of course, he will do. We live in a flat, so it's very accessible to him. When he knows he's getting a telling off or being put in the crate when i go out that's where he runs to. It is sweet though when he goes off to bed and i can snuggle into the warm spot. I've just fetched him out, need to decided what I'm doing, so Dillon knows what he's doing. Other night went to bed on own and woke up with a boy and a dog and no space for my legs! Then when the other half stays......

Re: Sleeping on bed
Well Jethro was never allowed on our lounge or bed. He has a basket in the lounge and one in our bedroom. Well a few months back he had 2 operations.. this one above is when he had several nasty growths and lumps cut out of him. When he got home from the vets.. he was so sad.. Tony said "Come on Jethro you can come up on the lounge"..well Jethro has hardly left the lounge since!! When he is inside he just goes straight up on the lounge!! haha.. and he is a lounge hog!! So they never forget .. if you let them do something just once.......that's it !!
