I've always used crates and found them great and found housetraining with them very easy

We used the crate for the first time almost 2 years ago with our last dog after owning dogs for more than 20 years and it was by far the best and easiest thing we've done. The best part was that he continued to use his crate even after the training stage and went to sleep in it every night his whole life. They won't go to the toilet in their crate and like Janey mentioned, 3am toilet breaks will be the norm until they can hold it in longer as they get older. We're definitely sticking to crate training with all our dogs from now on.

Agree totally with above advice. I'm afraid the 3am is a must at her age. Also a toilet break as late as possible at night and as early as possible next morning. But it's only for a few weeks. Also NO interaction at 3am apart from lots of praise when she goes, then straight back into the crate without any fuss. Otherwise she will wake you during the night for attention.
