Looking for historical information on the SBT

Hello everyone. I am looking for historical info on how the SBT breed started in relation to the APBT. Was the SBT the original pit dogs in England, and the APBT branched off of them when they were shipped to America. Was there any breeds added to the SBT other than the original bull and terrier cross? When was dog fighting outlawed in England and what changes did this have on the breed? Thank you.

There are several books that cover all of this, but one I would recommend is The Bully Breeds by Dr David Harris. In it he covers the origins of 6 Bull & Terrier breeds - The APBT, The Staffy, The Bull Terrier, The Miniature Bull Terrier, The Boston Terrier & the AmStaff. His writing is clear & his research is spot on - plus some great pics to illustrate his points.

I'll have to try and find that book, sounds great!
