Ronnie - urgent foster home needed
Ronnie is about 5 or 6 years old. She was a stray who was never claimed. She did not cope well for the months she was in kennels and we were all relieved when she found a home. Today I received this message:
"Sadly Ronnies new home hasnt worked out and she is being returned.
It is not fair for Ronnie to be returned to kennels after spending such a long time in a home.
We cannot find rescue spaces for our bull breeds. Ronnie is therefore in urgent need of a foster home. If one cannot be found in the next few days Ronnie will very sadly be put to sleep.
In the house Ronnie has proved to be a superstar. She is house trained, can be left for a few hours without any problems, is non destructive and sleeps in her bed all night. Ronnie is a very quiet dog to live with.
In her home Ronnie has been living with two older children.
If you know of anyone who could offer a foster or rescue space please contact me on here and I will pass the details on. Ronnie only has a few days.

Oh dear Sarah so sorry to hear about Ronnie, I don't know where in the south west you are but it may be worth contacting this place. They are local to me in Buckinghamshire ????

Thank you both.
Kathy, I will look into that rescue - there are several staffies and staffy-crosses on their website. The problem with Ronnie is that she can't really go back into kennels as last time it made her so depressed and she is still recovering
She needs a forever home but a foster will at least buy her some time. Poor love.

Sar H:
any idea how she might get along with another female staffy?
her temperament reads very much like 'Lady'
and she wasn't very happy in the rescue kennels ..
but i do know Lady would like a doggie play-friend ..
don't know If i could deal with two staffys if things got out of hand
could ask my neighbour if she could help out with walks
( experienced dog carer .. currently without )
is there any help from the kennels regarding fostering ..
i.e. food etc
( just wondering )
south west is a ways from yorkshire ..
but i for one would hate to see Ronnie pts ..
does she travel in car ok ?
and .. any idea why she was returned to the kennels ?
( i.e. why it didn't work out at her home )

Surely her being in kennels is better than her life being ended?

Re: Ronnie - urgent foster home needed
Kozmoz, I couldn't see how to email you back so here is the info I have on Ronnie:
any idea how she might get along with another female staffy?
I'm not sure. She can react to other dogs. She was fine with other dogs at a dog show, and at agility training, but is sometimes a bit full on.
is there any help from the kennels regarding fostering ..
I don't think so but I could ask. We are not a rehoming centre so don't really have anything set up. We usually work with organised rescues for things like this but they all swamped.
south west is a ways from yorkshire ..
but i for one would hate to see Ronnie pts ..
Yes it is, but we might be able to organise 'delivery', although it is a long way if there are any problems.
does she travel in car ok ?
Ronnie is very good in the car
and .. any idea why she was returned to the kennels ?
Yes, they let her off the lead (after being advised not to) and she got into a scrap with another dog. Neither dog needed a vet
There is someone locally who might be able to take Ronnie. They won't be able to get her to meet their dog until after the weekend. If you have a think about it and think you could help if the other place falls through then please email the dog warden for more details etc. Her email is dog.wardens@southglos.gov.uk
Even if you can't take Ronnie thank you for caring

Re: Ronnie - urgent foster home needed
I contacted the rescue that Kathy suggested. The lady was lovely, but there is a 6 month waiting list for places! There are just so many unwanted dogs
Sara - I know what you mean. We have one rescue staffy and just couldn't cope with another one at the moment.
RescueStaffords. I know what you mean, but she is in council stray kennels, not a rehoming centre. Until we can move her to a rescue there is almost no chance of finding Ronnie a home. She did not cope well in kennels, and the more stressed and worked up a dog becomes the harder it is to rehome them. I think her problems now are caused by stress from being in kennels as much as anything else. We had similar problems with our staffy, who took about 6 - 8 months to recover from her stay in the pound.
I think a lot of fosterers are full too. Maybe some people are chucking out their older dogs to make room for the new Christmas puppy

Re: Ronnie - urgent foster home needed
cheers for the reply :-)
had a talk to my neighbour ..
and due to her current daily schedule she could not say 'yes' to walkies assistance :-(
i'dmost likely give fostering a go .. IF .. Lady and Ronnie got along together ..
Lady is quite friendly to other dogs .. has never been aggressive ..
but .. if snapped at she will react assertively .. or walk off ..
she often approaches other dogs .. cautiously .. to say hello ( if allowed to )
but i also rekon the chances of 2 females being fine together ..
might be a tad slimmer than a male and female ..
( just from what i've observed in these few months )
as far as travel is concerned .. yes it's a ways ..
but ..
i've a good friend who now lives in cornwall and i owe him a visit .. fair-few-years-no-see ..
so arranging a meet-up shouldn't be too difficult ..
~~~~
regarding people nearby to the kennels who might give her a home .. temp. or otherwise ..
I'll keep an eye on this topic-thread for updates
re:
although i just had a look and couldn't see how to email me :-)
anyway .. if needed .. i'll write it briefly on page ..
~~~~
should i email the dog-warden and let them know of the Possibilty anywayz ??
or wait 'n see what gets updated in this topic thread ..

Re: Ronnie - urgent foster home needed
The person who is interested hopes to meet Ronnie after the weekend. They have experience with staffies and with rescue dogs.
Kozmos, it might be worth dropping an email to the dog warden, just in case the other option doesn't work out. If you do then please mention that you saw Ronnie on here - it helps to know how people find out about our dogs.
Thank you all for your kind words and support. I am involved in a fund-raising event tomorrow (Maddie is attending as an ambassador for rehomed staffies ) so I may hear more about Ronnie then. I will certainly keep you informed

Re: Ronnie - urgent foster home needed
I can't believe anyone would return a dog saying it hadn't worked after a single scrap with another dog. Gypsy has cost me quite a few pounds because she takes exception to some dogs and has a nasty bite (don't all Staffys?). Then again she played happily with other Staff's, her best pal was a Cairn and she quite likes the noisy beagle we meet. I would guess the owners had no experience of Staffy's and got scared ........

Re: Ronnie - urgent foster home needed
Morgaine, the volunteers at the kennels have said exactly the same. The person who assessed the adopters feels dreadful, as they seemed to be ideal.
Maddie has a small scar behind her ear from a scufffle, yet she still adores the GSD who inflicted it. Her new best friend is a shi-tzu called Jasper
Ronnie's potential owner is hoping to visit her on Wednesday.

Re: Ronnie - urgent foster home needed
A quick update. Ronnie met the couple. They found it a bit hard as they haven't got over the loss of their dog recently but fell in love with Ronnie. She is currently staying there for the weekend to see how she gets on. The important thing is that she tolerates a family member's puppy. In kennels she reacts badly to other dogs (our Maddie was just the same) so they want the dogs to meet in a home environment to get a better idea of her true nature.
Fingers crossed Ronnie copes ok and has a home before the Christmas rush
