Was just wondering what people's opinions of dog backpacks are?

recently bumped into a friend .. with his 2yr old staffy male
staffy was sporting an empty backpack ..
i asked "Why .. ? "
friend said it had improved his walking behaviour when around lots of distractions

Some people gradually build up the weight carried to add to the general amount of exercise. I've nothing against them as long as the weights are very gradually added, and they are totally even on both sides.
