New here and to Staffies
Hi, my name is Diane and I'm an Australian living in Jakarta, Indonesia and although home is in Spain, we will be based in Andorra. We plan on moving back to europe at the end of 2014/early 2015. My husband and I have owned rottweilers and Dogo Argentinos for more than 20 years. The Dogo has been a part of our family for just over 10 years and just a few days ago, our young male passed away. Our 9 year old daughter has always grown up with dogos and was first devastated when our old boy who was with her from birth passed away last year and it's been a double blow for her (and us) to lose another just over a year later.
We've decided to wait until our move back to get another dog and we've decided to go for a staffy. As much as we love the dogo, we've all decided that choosing a smaller breed would be best for the family - Our dogos did everything with us, but the dogos size made it difficult to travel with them. Also with BSL, travelling/driving through some european countries could be a problem and one that we would like to avoid. With the staffy, we believe we'll still get the same devotion and love that we had with our dogos but just in a smaller compact package
I look forward to learning more about the stuffy here, getting to know you guys (if you're anything like Dogo owners I know you are absolutely and fiercely passionate about this breed) and hopefully get some help when it's time to start looking for our new family member.

I've got plenty of photos but I'll upload for a couple for you. They really are an amazing breed that is totally devoted to family, especially the kids.ella wrote:hi from me and the boys, have you got any photos of your dogos? i LOVE them and would have one if they weren't banned here
This was our baby boy Marco.
Angel saying goodbye to Marco before he went to the clinic for treatment. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to be saved from the tick blood parasites.
Angel when she was younger with Zoe and Kostya
Angel and Kostya. There was a real strong bond between these two and he was her shadow from birth.
Angel over the years with her dogos.
And my first dogo Casper and last rottweiler Nasser together back in Thailand before my daughter was born. Nasser passed away of bone cancer aged 8 years old and a few months later, Casper passed away at 2 and half from secondary complications of ehrlichia transmitted by a tick.

Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me.
You have certainly chosen a very affectionate breed of dog with the Staffy (also known here as the Nanny Dog because they are so very good with chilldren). I'm sure you will find the forum extremely helpful and all members both staff and otherwise are always very willing to help with any issues.
So sorry to read of the loss of you previous dogs they are lovely pics.

Hi & welcome.
What beautiful dogs you've had. Thanks for the fantastic pics of them all.
Did Spain go ahead with Breed Specific Legislation? I believe it was to include the Stafford?

Pit Bull and all Bull breeds (Amstaff, staffs, etc)
All Mastiffs
Rottweiler
Dogo Argentino
Fila Brasileiro
Tosa Inu
Akita Inu
Canary Island Prey Dog
Caucasian Shepherd
Dogue De Bordeaux
Brazilian Fila
Doberman
Corsican Can
German Shepherds
All dogs over 25 Kilos in weight (yeh go figure!)
Now saying that, we've never had a problem with owing dogos in Spain or taking them out in public. Police have actually approached us but always to compliment us on our dogs. The law requires a special license but we or any other dogo owner (or owner of any the listed breeds) there that we knew had licenses either.
As far as I know, there is no Dangerous Dog Lists in Andorra which will be our main residence.

Re: New here and to Staffies
You guys have no idea how happy I am to have joined this forum and to get so much out of it already. I've learned so much in such a small time and I can't wait to learn more.
This is the last video I made of our boy a few weeks ago. He was already sick here as you might see from his body as he was much thinner than he usually was but his energy was still up and he absolutely loved our sunday morning walks in the centre of Jakarta with our friends here. Not sure when we can face our family sunday morning walks again, but I haven't been able to continue on with my weekday morning walks without him when it was just the two of us.

Oh my gosh they're gorgeous! thanks for sharing the pictures and videos of him! Dogos are my second favorite breed in the world! I'd love one I'm sure you'll be very pleased with down sizing to the staffie though as they are brilliant family dogs any idea how you'll be getting one? Rescue or from a breeder?

Re: New here and to Staffies
The dogo is pretty damn awesome but I think can be said of anyones chosen breed, especially when brought up in the right setting and family full of love.CodlingKid wrote:Oh my gosh they're gorgeous! :xthanks for sharing the pictures and videos of him! I think the transition from large dog to one half its size is going to be much easier for us - one thing about the dogo is that they seemed to forget that they were so large and love absolutely nothing better than being as close as possible to you. Whether its a paw or their butt, they would always try to be right there. It will be a definitely change not having a 45-50kg dog always stepping on your feet
We were considering rescue but since we plan on travelling through europe for holidays and need to go through France from Spain and Andorra, we were advised that it would be best to get one with papers from a breeder to prove that he is a staffy 100% and make going through the borders easier as they are listed on that horrible dog list.
