Found a lump under Alfie's neck.
Had spotted a wee lump under Alfie's neck last week so decided to keep an eye on it. Not sure if its grown or not but I am not taking any risks. Phoning vet tomorrow for an appointment, so fingers crossed!!

Re: Found a lump under Alfie's neck.
Okay so visit to the vet today. Turns out there are in fact two small lumps. Vet unsure as to whether or not they could be bites or the like. Probably would have assisted the vet had Alfie not got super excited and was wriggling more than a professional Zumba Dancer!! Antibiotics for seven days and if no change then back for him to be sedated and the lumps explored Will keep you updated.

Re: Found a lump under Alfie's neck.
Hope Alfies lump is nothing serious. I am always nervous when it comes to any lumps since my own dog got cancer. The one piece of advice I give everyone is to have pathology done to make sure. Gives you piece of mind if its nothing and if it is something you can act quick to give your dog the best chances.
Hugs for you and Alfie

Re: Found a lump under Alfie's neck.
Okay so course of antibiotics done. In all honesty its hard to say whether its gone down, it certainly hasn't increased. I think the best and safest way forward is to take Alfie back to the vet, let them sedate him and get a proper look. Will keep you informed.

Re: Found a lump under Alfie's neck.
Another trip to the vet. Vet took a needle sample to look under the microscope. Just phoned for results and confirmed it is not a fatty lump nor a cyst so it is being sent to the lab for investigation, just to be on the safe side. Will update as soon as I know.

Re: Found a lump under Alfie's neck.
Vet just phoned, Alfie has a mast cell tumour. He is going in on Tuesday to have it removed. Because of the type of tumour they obviously need to check his kidneys and liver. I have everything crossed and hope they have caught it early!!!Does anyone know why I would have to give Alfie Piriton Tablets three days prior to his surgery??

Oh i'm so sorry Biscuit had a grade 6 malignant melanoma removed 2 years ago (thankfully it didn't spread!!) but I gave her piriton while she was waiting for her surgery as it really irritated her and she kept chewing on it! Not sure if that would be the reason for the piriton? Wishing you an easy recovery with you boy! xxx

Re: Found a lump under Alfie's neck.
So the vet having had cancelled Alfie's surgery on the 31st December he was duly operated on yesterday. By the time I picked up Alfie, sadly the vet had left but the receptionist checked the records and it appears that both the liver test and xrays have come back clear. Tumour was removed from his neck and he has to go back to the vet on Saturday to check his wound. I had to sign a disclaimer for Glasgow University. I think the tumour is sent to them for analysis etc. Hoping the vet will give me more news on Saturday. Alfie was obviously feeling sorry for himself yesterday but has picked up a lot today. many thanks to you all for your kind wishes xx

Re: Found a lump under Alfie's neck.
Update on Alfie. Visited vet today to get his stitches out. Turns out that Alfie may have nicked the would with a possible scratch (he didn't get a buster collar given the wound area). He was really doing well with not even bothering with the wound. I did ask the vet if it could have been with him having one of his "mad moments". You know when they just bolt back and forward so fast, said it could be but there was also a lot of crusting formed round the wound so he's on antibiotics and a antibiotic scrub.
Vet has since phoned me to confirm results. Tumour was defo Mast Cell - Grade 2. Although this grade is aggressive, he was happy that the margins of the submitted tissue removal were clean.
Alfie is an incredibly brave and loyal dog. He is only 4 years of age and will not be defeated by this. There is absolutely no change whatsoever in his demeanour and continues to make me laugh on a daily basis. We all remain completely focused.
Anyone who finds a lump on their dog, no matter how small. If you have concerns please, please please go to the vet and get it checked out and ask for a needle sample. These tumours are often mistaken as bites or the like.
May I once again thank you all for your continued well wishes for Alfie.
