Problems with house training. Empty Problems with house training.

We picked up a 12 week old puppy on Sunday who had not been house trained at all. I have been taking her outside regularly and praising and giving treats when she does her business. she seemed to be getting the idea and we were only having a couple of accidents in the house.

The main problem is that if we have had to leave her in her cage for a couple of hours she will wee and poo in the cage. And today i have been out for 5 hours but she has been left with hubby who has taken her out and praised her for her wee, but as soon as she has been let back in she has pooped on the carpet twice, i came in and let her out she did a wee and then came in and pooped again.

Any idea on why she is doing this as she can go all night with no accident.

Its all about consistency she is still very young.Seems like you are doing great. If she goes in the house don't make a fuss just clean it up and wash with non bio washing powder as if you are using bleach it doesn't get rid of the smell, and will encourage her to go there again.

She's still a baby and it takes time Smile plus she's still settling in, lots of praise when she gets it right and no fuss when she has an accident, time, patience and persistence and she'll get there, what are your cleaning the mess up with? Biological washing powder is good because it breaks down the enzymes that cause odour Smile

Oh the toilet training stage ... it feels like it will go on forever! It does end though I promise Smile

Time and consistency are the keys here, along with a HUGE amount of patience .... a week is just not long enough to guarantee success everytime unfortunately. Keep doing what you are doing, remember that the accidents are natural (not purposeful attempts to upset you) and feel free to vent here anytime you need to. We've all been there x

its seems to be going well at the minute only 1 wee in the house in 3 days, and we left her for 1 1/2 hrs while we had to go to parents evening and we came back to a clean cage. Smile

Sounds like you got the basics right and it really get easier. Like said above your little one is still very much a baby. The consistency and patience do produce results. Good luck Smile
