Having to sell my beautiful puppy.
Having spent the weekend in hospital with my 6 year old son were having to sell our 7 week old puppy Jax. My sons had a bad asthma attack brought on by our puppy. He's also covered in an allergic rash. Seems he's allergic to Jax. We're absolutely gutted- the kids are distraught. We spoke to a skin specialist at the hospital who said that for my son to be as bad as he is shows them it's a sever allergy. He said that normally a reaction starts off small and builds up over time but in my sons case the rash appeared over 5 days and the asthma attack came out of the blue. So there's no chance my sons allergy will let up at all. It's not something we can wait and see with.
Has anyone got any idea of any brilliant centres I can take Jax to if we can't sell him? The dogs trust we went to before we got Jax wasn't a place I'd be happy to leave him with. I don't want him to go to just anyone- my husband has put it on his Facebook page but ive said I will only let him go to people who we can vet and who
we feel comfortable with. I know we've only had him 9 days but already he's part of our family. It's gonna be awful letting him go but I have to do what's best for my son. I'm near wakefield, West Yorkshire if anyone has any ideas of centres or knows anyone wanting a puppy. Thank you.m

Re: Having to sell my beautiful puppy.
selling on never a good thing i know you not got much choice as you can never truelly vet a new owner 100% and they can end up in the wrong hands your best option is to find a staffie rescue or a reputable dog shelter and they can do all the needed vetting of owners

I'm so sorry to hear this, you must be devastated. I really think you'd be better handing him to a rescue centre rather than selling him yourself, this is our recommended list

I am so sorry to hear this Lisa, but obviously your son's health is paramount.

Re: Having to sell my beautiful puppy.
Thank you for the link- there's a few near me which were going to have a look at. He's been loved and cuddled and played with and has everything we could give him. I just want him to have the same where he goes cos it's not fair on him to have been with us with 4 kids to play with then for him to go sit on his own with nothing and no body.

Re: Having to sell my beautiful puppy.
YOu have two problems. One is your son's allergy, which you obviously have to deal with.
The other is that you've taken into your home an under age pup without any thought to its future. What on earth made you take a pup of less than 6 weeks old? No pup should leave its mother & siblings until at least 8 weeks old.
This pup will have very little bite inhibition and will have no idea how to play/interract with other dogs, and now you have to get rid of him.
Whatever you do, don't sell him. Either find a good home with a friend or family member or5 hand him to a breed specific rescue centre.

Re: Having to sell my beautiful puppy.
I'm a little confused. You say your pup is 7 weeks now, and you've had him for 9 days, but on the 1st November you said he was 7 weeks. Which is it?

I didn't say there wasn't Caryll said she was confused so I was just saying no need to be confused it's a week or so off. Something I'm sure plenty of people get wrong here if there???

Re: Having to sell my beautiful puppy.
im sure when you get a puppy you dont get confussed so early on its not like saying an 12month pup is 11 months when you get a puppy you know how old it is you counting the days you have had it its such an important time what with jabs and things its not something you get wrong

Re: Having to sell my beautiful puppy.
Here's a reply I posted with regards to jax's age. The thread is Not drinking in the puppy section.
We was told he would be 8 weeks on the 8th nov which we originally had planned on getting him. We have never had a dog before so I did plenty of reading up and making sure we was all ready for a dog and I read that 8 weeks was the earliest.
We was meant to get him on the 8th nov when he would have been 8 weeks old but owners rang us last week and said we could take him a week earlier as mum wasn't bothering with pups anymore, they were on solid food and on Thursday Jax would be alone as all pups would be gone by then. It wasn't till we was driving home last sat with him that I worked out his dates (I asked for his birth date fleeing and worming details) i rang the vets and they said it was ok as he wasn't dependent on mum.
We had thought of jax's future caryll. Having spoke to the vet they assured us he would be fine as he wasn't dependent on mum. Hubbie and I talked about taking him back to breeder but as his siblings had been sold they wouldn't have taken him back. So should I have taken him to a rescue centre or keep him and give him everything we possible could and help him the best we could based on what the vets advised. If my son hadn't had a reaction there would be no need for this post or tears and upset in my house.
Thanks everyone.

Re: Having to sell my beautiful puppy.
Thanks for clearing that up, Lisa.
AllOfUS, it makes a great deal of difference when you're trying to work out what's going to be the best option for the poor pup!
Lisa, any decent breeder would a) never have allowed the pup to go to a new home at such a young age and b) would gladly take the pup back in your circumstances.
To me, your only option is to contact a breed specific rescue. Anything else could end up with the pup being very badly treated.

Re: Having to sell my beautiful puppy.
Awful predicament but as said a good breeder would willingly take a pup back, especially under the circumstances. Please try the breed specific rescue centres as they know what Jax will need and an appropriate homing for him.

Re: Having to sell my beautiful puppy.
Don't beat up the Owner too much, At least she is on here trying to figure this out.. Many people just say * it and drop pets off at the local shelter / pound or just post them up "FREE puppy" in the paper.
With regards to where you got the pup, they are obvi. not a reputable "breeder" ( I don't feel they are a breeder and more likely a mill. ) As stated ANY GOOD REPUTABLE breeder will take a pup back. Or at a very min help you place him... I feel for ya, good luck

Re: Having to sell my beautiful puppy.
Lisa I'm so.. sorry your son has an allergic reaction to your puppy. You will be beside yourself worrying about him and having to dealing with the distress of finding a good home for the pup.
I hope some of the comments on here has helped, and that all works out well for you.

Re: Having to sell my beautiful puppy.
Pups do come along in rescues but not like the older dogs so sure a rescue will not find any problem getting him a home

Re: Having to sell my beautiful puppy.
Hi Lisa, I'm hoping your son is a lot better now after his weekend in hospital and am hoping that now he is back home he is better able to cope with the presence of Jax. Did the doctors mention desensitising treatment for him?
