Training issues
So we have started training Milo. We are using the tried and tested method of reward training. I have used this with all of my previous dogs and never really had any issues. Milo has learned the basic sit and paw commands already. However, he seems to get over excited by the thought of getting a treat, that after only a couple of minutes he starts jumping around or snapping towards our hands cos he thinks there is a treat there for him.
Has anybody ever had this problem? if so how did you solve it.
We will persevere with him, but it is just getting to be a pain. He also hates being told off for biting etc, if we say No, he either just jumps back from us and starts barking or he jumps back and tries to bite again.

Re: Training issues
Just short training sessions at first would probably sort it.
As to the biting, as well as the "no" you have to turn your back & totally ignore him (no words/eye contact/touching) until he's calm. If necessary walk out of the room & leave him behind for a munite or two.
Don't forget that he's only, what 10 weeks old, and will need a lot longer to get the hang of being calm!

Re: Training issues
We are only doin short sessions. Think its just gonna be a hard slog, as he is so hyper, ha. He gets over excited after maybe just a minute or two so not long sessions really.
Think the leaving him in the room on his own is gonna be best as when you turn away he will just nip at any part of you he can reach. He's a lal terror, lol.
He is 11 weeks old now, and goes for his second injection tomorrow, so hopefully in a week or so when we can start walking him we can get some of that energy out of him.

Re: Training issues
It's always a difficult time , before they can get out. Try tiring his mind by hiding treats in a room, and then letting him find them himself - keep saying "seek" and every time he finds one, tell him how good he is & send him on to seek again. That way he's finding his own treats & won't be tempted to bite you! He'll also need to think about what he's doing & that'll tire him out almost as much as a walk!

Re: Training issues
I agree with Caryll here.... if he is Hypo... he needs to be tired first..
I had a similar issue with Holly.. I know he prob cant go out for a walk as yet... but you could play with him lots... them let him rest for a few mins to calm down and then try...
also i found the opp with Holly... if she was starving.. she just wanted the food no matter what... once i fed her and trained her after breakfast etc.. she was much happier to sit and wait for the treat...
If it makes you feel better she is just over 6 months and she will happily sit while we eat in front of her and is so very gentle when we finially give her a treat ... you will get there just keep at it
