Looking for a Staffie
Good morning everyone
I'm looking to get a staffie bitch and was just wondering whether to get one from a rehoming site or from a breeder
Any suggestions welcome
There seem to be an awful lot of these lovely dogs at rehoming centres
Thanks in advance
Matt

Hiya and welcome to the forum. There are going to be be very different views on this and its really up to you. I will always say rescue, you can get any age and they will find a bitch to suit you. There are so many dogs especially staffs that need good homes. Good luck

Re: Looking for a Staffie
Depends what you want - do you want a pet/companion or a show dog?
If you want a show dog then rescues won't be any good because they'll be neutered.
If you want a pet/companion then a rescue is a really good way to go.

mine is a puppy from luton as at the time, i was looking for a puppy and didn't think about rehoming a puppy/dog, a bit selfish of me, but you live and learn
btw great birthday yours is 4 days before mine and the same year , also I live between bedford and hitchin, so not far from where you live

Re: Looking for a Staffie
Only you can know the right thing for you. We don't have the number of rescues available that you do, so I buy from breeders. But if I lived in a country with lots of wonderful dogs in rescue I might have done differently. I actually have rehomed a dog, too, but that was through her breeder and not rescue. I'll admit I never bonded with her like I did with the dogs I had from puppyhood. BUT - I just was informed by e-mail that she needed a new home, and of course she was welcome. She travelled across the country to come to me and had a good life here. And I loved her, it's not that. But if I had the option of choosing one of many dogs in a rescue center (which, unfortunately, is a possibility in many places) I might have chosen a dog that I had better chemistry and there might not have been a difference with getting an adult dog versus puppy that it felt like to me.
Re: Looking for a Staffie
I would say rescue as these poor dogs in the shelters deserve homes to i didnt rescue kaiser but if i was to get another i definately would

Re: Looking for a Staffie
I'd say rehome a staffy from a rescue centre. My Poppy is a rescue dog and I couldn't ask for a better dog, she's so good and appreciates me giving her a loving home. Although rescue dogs mean more effort as some of them might need more training or they could of been hurt by their previous owners which affected them in some way. My staffy gets really nervous when there are loud noises outside or when she hears lots of dog's barking, she always hides under my bed or under the dinning table. Luckily I also have a Jack Russell which helps her with getting her confidence back!
Good luck. x

Re: Looking for a Staffie
Any reason in particular that you are looking for a female? I see in your side bar information you already have one female and usually opposite sex pairings work better then same sex pairings.

Welcome and best of luck!!
I would check local pounds first before going to a breeder. There is way too many dogs in pounds these days including staffies, but make sure if you find one in the pound that you are considering on getting, you check if it will be right for your home. I got Tank from the pound a month ago and he is perfect! Well worth it!
